Twins on target for franchise collapse?

08:12 AM ET 04.11 | After a 99-loss season, the Twins cut payroll back by $15 million to $100 million. The Pohlads always have stated that their spending would be based on revenue. If the Twins flop this April and are effectively eliminated from contention, attendance figures [could] dramatically drop. That could mean a smaller payroll for 2013 and an angry fan base that believes Target Field should fund well-paid teams. ... The Pirates and Orioles are former model franchises with two of the best ballparks in America. The Pirates haven't had a winning season since 1992. The Orioles haven't had a winning season since 1997. For the Twins, a bad April will raise the specter of franchise collapse.

They've done so well in the Central for many years, it's their turn to take a seat in the cellar for a while. The farm system will be the key to their rebound and from what I've read, it's average at best.

Vikings and Twins. From first to last

I'm severly disappointed TnR ... :(

I don't think I'd lump the Twins with the Pirates and the Orioles. They have have made the playoffs 6 times in this millenium alone.

I wonder how much of this has to do with Terry Ryan resigning in 2007?

Interestingly, he signed back on last November.

Good management drives revenues, good moves, good team.
They should try putting a better team on the field and let that drive revenue, then get a cable contract, it is all the rage.

It doesn't help them that the other teams in their division stopped suuuccckking so bad. That really was a major reason for their success the last few years.

I completely disagree with that.

The last couple years, the central has been weak. A strong case could be made that in the ten years prior to that, it was the second best division in the majors.
