08:22 AM ET 04.13 | The cost to replace Henrik Zetterberg's helmet is minimal, but the Red Wings don't believe that's the point. [Zetterberg] had to use a new helmet Thursday, as his old one cracked in two pieces when Shea Weber pounded Zetterberg's head into the glass in Game 1. Cost to the Red Wings: About $90. Cost to Weber: $2,500. ... That didn't sit particularly well with the Wings, starting with Zetterberg. "In my view, it was pretty bad," he said. "I heard he got fined. I guess the bar is set. I thought it was dirty. I thought it was a direct hit to my head. If we look at what happened the last few years with all the head injuries, I think that shouldn't belong in the game."

Weber was fined a pack of gum, relatively speaking. And it's ridiculous. If that was Crosby's dome getting javelined into the glass, he'd get at least two games.

I respectfully disagree.
Anyone who did that to Crosby would have gotten 5 games, 2 games is what you get when you do it to Malkin.

He also woulda gotten an additional five regular season games next year.

I don't doubt that Shannahan gave a call to Weber and said straight up that the next playoff hit like that will be games. Granted, I think Weber should have gotten 2 games, but it is done.

if it was a league darling like Crosby the punishment would be different.

He would have gotten exactly what Steckel got and you guys would be flipping out over the Penguins crying about someone bumping little Cindy.

You can't be lumping this in with the Steckel hit at all. I don't think Weber should have been suspended, but he did deliver a blow knowingly, not accidental.

What does every thread have to end up @ Pens/Flyers or Cindy?

When did Orpik ever do anything illegal? He's the cleanest player in the NHL, sure he hits hard, but he plays big boy hockey.

I heard somewhere that it's what he's paid per shift.

I agree with you on Weber's hit. He deliberately shoved his head into the boards. That should have warranted something more than a fine.

Supposedly Weber got off light with Shanny because Z didn't suffer any facial or head injuries. Now there's some deductive reasoning to digest.

That is a job well done by the NHLPA to get the max fine at $2500.

Wah Wah Wah.
This is the NHL playoffs. The toughest trophy to win in all pro sports. Guys have played with much more than a headache in past years in order to get their name on Lord Stanley's goblet. All of a sudden, we have all become our mommy's sewing circle, whining and moaning about "headshots" and unfair play. Let's all move the discussion back to the men's lounge, pull out the beer instead of the herbal tea and enjoy the greatest time to be a hockey fan, and that includes the desperate play, crazy pace and yes, dirty play. There, I said it, now let the Viloence in Sport Police rear it's ugly head.
And, please someone give me 1-6 million/season to endure some pain and agony, I will gladly eat through a straw for the last chapter of my life, fed by a rather striking nurse as a price to pay for years of livin' the dream.
The guy got a love tap. Play the game. He isn't injured, so move on.

As I said yesterday, apparently it's the bounce that counts.
Saw Grapes on TV last night. He showed the slash to the back of the left leg Zetterberg gave Weber that was what riled Weber up. And then went on to say he though the fine was sufficient in that Weber "could" have put Zetterberg's head through the glass had he wanted to.
I'm OK with it all, but again consitency is required. Should Bertuzzi do something tonight, similar discipline should be meted out.
Game 2 should be interesting.

the knee-to-knee with Stepan? remember, Bettman washed Torts' mouth out with $20k worth of soap for using bad words?
Just because he wasn't fined/suspended, doesn't mean it was legal.
In Scotland, there is a verdict in the court system called 'Not Proven"...kind of like, we know you did it, you know you did it....we just can't convict for "whatever" reason
