Hawaii AD paying price for Jones

Posted: Tuesday January 08, 2008 07:10AM ET

Herman Frazier is out as University of Hawaii athletic director, several well-placed sources told the Star-Bulletin today. Frazier reported for work Monday, but was noticeably absent from a news conference where UH president David McClain and Manoa chancellor Virginia Hinshaw talked to reporters about football coach June Jones' leaving UH for SMU. McClain and Hinshaw said at Monday's news conference there would be an announcement and news conference tomorrow regarding Frazier. Frazier has undergone intense public criticism since early last year on several issues, including the UH football schedule, transition of basketball coaches, returning part of UH's Sugar Bowl ticket allotment, and, most recently, not signing Jones to a new contract.

It's Not!

At leat it will be easy for UH to dispose of Frazier...they will just toss him into the nearest volcano hole

They use to sacrifice virgins, but since they are at a premium, he will do.

Nice

Although...I think Timmy Chang may have worked

UH used to play to sparse crowds, but in recent years have become a hot ticket.
By not working to keep the football program budget in line with its returns, Frazier has killed the goose that laid the golden eggs as Jones departs for SMU.

In all fairness to Fraiser (and I know zip about the guy) even buidling a new facility in HAwaii would not have kept Jones there. He obviously got scapegoated when the school offer's Jones $800,000 and SMU offer $2 mil. Now I'm not very good at math, but I figure thats a $1.2 million dollar difference. Geez...who do you suppose wouldn't take the SMU offer.? You could buy an auwful lot of goodies with $1.2 mil. Infact, if I can count (which I can't) Jones makes more in one year at SMU, than he'd made in 2 at Hawaii. NO BRAINER folks!

Hawaii did up the stakes to $1.6 million; but when your "star" QB has to complain to the media to get soap in the locker room and your office still has the same carpeting in it from 1986 (according to June), there were more issues involved than salary.

I still think June made a mistake but after reading about the UH program, it kinda makes sense for him to bounce.

I have 2 questions:

1) is UH considered a "state" school?
2) What is the annual tuition to attend?

The reason I ask about the state school question is, given all of the tourism revenue they generate, there should be no excuse for not having the coffers. But I must have answers....I refuse to do any work until then.

Here's Hawaii's chance to go out and get some young, up-and-coming coach.

Don't recycle the likes of Dick Tomey.

UH is just trying to go green Man for America.....

Report Offensive Comment

I wanted him to stay, since they play the Gators next year. Now if they beat us it will be a bigger upset than if he was there. So for that reason i am all for firing Frazier.

Squirmin' Herman Frazier.

Report Offensive Comment

Bye bye Herman, and don't let the door hit you where the sun don't shine on the way out.

The list of Herman Frazier gaffes (incomplete)
1. Handling of June Jones.
2. Handling of Riley Wallace
3. Handling of hiring of Bob Nash to replace Riley Wallace.
4. No action on facilities improvements.
5. Fiasco with Sugar Bowl tickets; he sent the original allotment back because he thought there would not be much interest. How stupid can he get?
6. Failed to upgrade schedule to include a 13th game.
7. Alienated Warrior nation and grads.

That alone should be grounds for termination with cause.

By jove...you have done it again. Squirmin' Herman's got cache!

Idea.

Hawaii needs cash flow?

Go out nab a church affiliation. Try this on for size:

Hawaii Methodist University or Hawaii Christian University. No?

How 'bout something for the new age: Hawaii Multi-denominational University.

Get some TV evangelist to thump the tub, and it's pennies from heaven.

Okay. Bad idea. But Ted Haggard is looking for work.

Word is, he's got pull in the White House.

Maybe the Scientologists will take on the chore...I hear they believe volcanic activity is a government created myth.

They'll get it turned around.

The school is important culturally and politically.
