What's behind Amare's absence?

Center Amare Stoudemire returned to the Suns on Monday and the team tried to return to normalcy. That was not easy after Stoudemire did not come to practice Sunday, setting off speculation that he was upset with not getting shots in the third quarter and final six minutes of Saturday's loss. Stoudemire, who notified the team by text message on Sunday that he would be absent, said Monday that he was absent because his son had a 103-degree temperature that returned to normal Monday. The Stoudemire absence has brought up the bigger, ongoing issue of team chemistry.

Why is this news...........??

January 8, 2008  08:52 AM ET

Probably bc it was unexpected and very unusual. As far as I know the Suns didn't know why he wasn't showing up till later.

Suns haven't looked as fluid this season as the last couple of years. Part of that is Marion expressing a desire to get traded last offseason. Something is not right and hopefully they figure it out before the playoffs.

Maybe the real reason was that he was absent because his son had a 103-degree temperature that returned to normal Monday....What are the chances?

drj0514 spot on

matrix you a doctor? no your a nob

leave the guy alone

January 8, 2008  09:41 AM ET

Marion is the most overpaid non-factor in the NBA. he gets a million a point per night. 15 million ... 15 points. And his constant whining about not getting enough press disgusts me.

January 8, 2008  09:49 AM ET

Well in an earlier thread it was stated that the Suns didn't know why he didn't show up... Now it's stating his son had a fever, so there was some obvious miscommunication. But again, I too agree with drj0514 this is a garbage news story

January 8, 2008  09:55 AM ET

marion is only as good as nash makes him his trade demands were a disgrace as is his contract

marion thinks hes better than the big **** stud, what a joke

January 8, 2008  09:57 AM ET

The man just wanted to take some time off work. I wish I could do that.

January 8, 2008  10:35 AM ET

Give me a break his kid was sick. I would take that as I higher priority than work too! Must be a slow news day in Arizona.

January 8, 2008  10:40 AM ET

I don't think it's the fact that he missed practice. It's the fact that he sent a text message to his boss. I don't know about yall jobs, but I know I couldn't just send my boss a text saying I'm not coming in today.

January 8, 2008  11:02 AM ET

Winkstrap;

I was supporting Amare!!!! Anybody can have a child go sick at any time and cause one to miss work!!!..Trust me I know

January 8, 2008  11:15 AM ET

Let's setthe record straight. None of the Suns players would be significant players without Steve Nash. They have no chemistry because there's serious jealousy in thelocker room.

That's just why they'll never win a championship.

January 8, 2008  11:16 AM ET

If his child was sick, he can just say so, and not wait till it becomes a distraction. In any case, picking up the fone, calling the GM or the coach and saying he won't be avail is the least any pro can do, in any field. Ofcourse, if this was a dire emergency, I can understand, but it doesn't look like it.
Obviously this is a 'my dog ate my homework' scenario. It'll be very naive to say that there's nothing wrong with the Suns here.

January 8, 2008  12:57 PM ET

Send him to Chicago. We'll take him.

January 8, 2008  01:02 PM ET

sorry matrix i thought you were being sarcastic

people it was 1 practice its not as though it was a game or anything get over it im sure the suns have

January 8, 2008  02:44 PM ET

i dont believe this even the phoenix fans cant get along...

January 8, 2008  03:27 PM ET

This story has been carried for 2 days. If there is a point the Arizona Republic is trying to make, they should make it, if not, then let it go.

January 8, 2008  05:21 PM ET

Why is it such a big deal? Gotta take care of family.

January 8, 2008  05:33 PM ET

donny;
Phoenix fans are like family and we do have an occasion disagreement, but that doesn't mean we can't work together for the greater good...
