NCAA's hottest recruiting school

More than six months after DeAngelo Tyson became a part of Georgia's 2008 recruiting class, he is part of something more. Something that Georgia's coaches, as well as recruiting experts nationwide, consider to be one of the top three classes in the country and perhaps the best group ever recruited by coach Mark Richt. "We're a hot team right now,'" said recruiting coordinator Rodney Garner. "You have what we have been doing on the field [seven straight wins] and the black jerseys and the things around the program ... we've been a hot team." Maybe the Bulldogs aren't as hot as Notre Dame, which has the top recruiting class in 2008 despite an abysmal 3-9 season. But Georgia has filled its needs with four- and five-star recruits from inside the state.

Gonna be a great year next year.. go dawgs!

January 8, 2008  08:19 AM ET

UGA has a legit shot next year to win it all, HOWEVER, they still have to take care of playing Florida, South Carolina, Tennessee, Auburn, and yes VANDY (who has played UGA tough) next year!

January 8, 2008  08:37 AM ET

Dawgs should be good..even though I hate them:) They just need to beat the teams they are supposed to...they seem to always play good in the big games..

January 8, 2008  08:44 AM ET

WVU!!!LOL

January 8, 2008  09:33 AM ET

Georgia is going to be good for years to come. Richt is a solid coach and he doesn't look like he's going anywhere anytime soon.

January 8, 2008  09:37 AM ET

I figured the guy would have delivered a national title by now.

A Man for America is trying to be diplomatic in saying what we are all thinking:

Richt needs to get a hair replacement system.....that shag is scaring away the kids

IF a coache's bad hair is the only negative thing you can say about a program, you're doing alright

January 8, 2008  09:56 AM ET

Stafford should show some people what he really has next season. With a developed Moreno, and hopefully productive AJ Green to throw the ball to, I think UGA is a hands-on favorite to win the NC.

January 8, 2008  09:56 AM ET

Let's go dawgs!

January 8, 2008  09:59 AM ET

Fancy Pants, I am not sure if it will be as close as i would hope in Jax next year, UF defense is not up to the challenge.

January 8, 2008  10:52 AM ET

Love the black jerseys, don't ever wear black or red pants w/ those, puleaze. Now, if only my alma mater, Ok State would do the same they would see a return to their glory days because the black shirts do wonders when Jimmy Johnson was there to turn the program around.

UGA will be tough but they have a tough sked, it's always hard to predict what's going to happen in the SEC.

January 8, 2008  10:53 AM ET

should say ^ "did wonders"

January 8, 2008  12:21 PM ET

How many times in the last 15 years has UGA had a "Top 5" recruiting class (a bunch). And how many times in the last 15 years has UGA won a National Championship (0)? Or won the SEC Championship (2)? Or even played in the SEC Championship (3)?

Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, and LSU all have more SEC Championships in the last 15 years than UGA. And UGA almost always has "better" recruiting classes than all of them.

If you look at how UGA's recruiting classes and how those teams have performed 3 years later then UGA has consistently underperformed.

January 8, 2008  12:45 PM ET

oh yeah ... but who wants to spend even a year in Georgia? ... this school is being hyped when it couldn't even win its own conference.

January 8, 2008  12:52 PM ET

Lemme guess, silverblack23 is a Trojan. I got some words for you if you are.

The schedule for UGA will be tough to get through: @LSU, @Arizona State, @Jacksonville w/ Florida (a virtual home game for Florida), @USC, and @ Auburn. Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky, and Vanderbilt are at home. If any team is able to get through it, then it'll be next year's dawgs.

January 8, 2008  01:09 PM ET

How bout em - What are your other non-conf games? Tough schedules dont include div 1-aa teams. Oh, and you live/lived in georgia. sucks.

January 8, 2008  02:04 PM ET

Georgia is a consistently good team. They haven't won a NC recently even with good recruits. In the past, coaching was an issue. Now the coaching is more solid, but sometimes in the BCS you need a little luck to help get you to a NC game. There was a 12-1 Georgia team in 2002. That record would have put them in the NC game this year. This year a 2 loss SEC team won the NC. Georgia was a 2 loss SEC team and didn't get to play. Not arguing that they should have, that's a moot point, but consistently finishing in or around the top 10 can be more difficult and more impressive objectively than having a great 2 or 3 year run like some teams and then fall out of the picture. If we keep getting good recruits and our coaching stays strong, it's only a matter of time before the Bulldogs will get the chance to show they are a Champion.

MARINsur4- The SEC is by far harder.. Just because we have a few soft games does not mean the road is easy. How many soft games do you have? We had 9-12 teams with a winning record; how did your conference do? Trust me; they only suck because of your ignorance. They are a solid team. I like many teams but always get tired of personal opinions based on nothing but ignorance.
