08:08 AM ET 04.16 | How close C.J. Wilson came to signing in Miami can be measured not in miles, but minutes. Wilson told his agent, Bob Garber, that he would sign with the Marlins if he didn't hear back from the Angels by 9:30 [on Dec. 7]. Fine idea, except for one thing. The Angels were preoccupied with signing free-agent first baseman Albert Pujols. ... "Just give me a half-hour," [Jerry Dipoto] told Garber. "I'm in the middle of something right now, we'll get this taken care of." At that point, the Angels had only offered Wilson four years. Garber texted, "Five years, yes or no." "Five years, yes," Dipoto responded. That exchange took place around 9:15, or about 15 minutes before Wilson's deadline.

Marlins will be lucky to be the victim of "bad timing" is my prediction. CJ's not worth what he signed for but who is these days. Still don't see the Angels being close to being contenders...even w/ Wilson.

oh they're definitely contenders. i get where on paper they aren't as stacked as the rangers and maybe the yankees. but that's about it. and with those starting pitchers, if they get to the playoffs they'll be dangerous.

Agreed. A trio of Weaver, Haren, and Wilson in the playoffs will be TOUGH to beat.

wilson its the only player who has being playing to the halos expectations!!!

April 16, 2012  05:22 PM ET

angels reforce the catching offense,, but they weak the deffense in very bad way, by upgrading the catching offense, the halos let down the more important point, which its the deffense in the catching perspective!!!

first, the halos need to play like a pro, and be able to make it to the playoffs, after that anything could happen!!!

the halos, do have a major problem, in their bullpen, and second in their starters rotation, why??? because the catching spot lacks in experience, and it seems as if he has being driving the starters backwards, just saying!!!

I thought Ozzie was showing how Castro likes his "little castanets" to be massaged.
