Sessions really, really wants to stay in L.A.

08:01 AM ET 04.16 | With so many obstacles in his way, it's a wonder Ramon Sessions has lasted long enough in the league to have found what appears to be a true fit in the NBA, and he couldn't be happier in Los Angeles. Sessions is expected to decline a player option for $4.6 million next season and become an unrestricted free agent. He said he didn't want to move again, not with so much clarity in his basketball career. A return to the Lakers would seem logical if the sides worked out a multiyear deal. ... "I want to be here. I don't know what that means or how that's going to happen. It ain't no secret. I'll tell anybody that. I tell [Lakers General Manager] Mitch Kupchak. I tell my agent. I want to be here. Period. For a long time."

What will he sign for ? $7M / year ?? $9M / year ?
He is probably average or slightly below average PG in the NBA. (probably 15-20 in rankings)

He is playing at a level that is better than 15-20 range. I would put him in the 8-15th 2nd tier point guard. After the top 7 elite PG's there is a group of good PG's. That are on the edge of being really great but they are good. I am not saying he is the 8th best PG either but there is not that big of a difference in the 8-15th best PG IMO.
Top 7 no order
1. Rose,
2. Rondo
3. CP3
4. D Will
5. Westbrook
6. Parker
7. Nash

The Lakers should be happy that he is coming out and making this known. 1. If he really wants to stay like he says he does, he will take a little less than he can get elsewhere and stay. 2. Probably more importantly, they haven't had a point guard who is as good as Sessions is in a really long time. D-Fish hit big shots and could play some d in his day, but this guy is a better player than Fisher ever was.

Irving, Wall, Lowry, Calderon, Lin, Lawson, Collison, Conley, Holiday, Felton, Nelson, Rubio, Teague, Knight, Harris, ... you really think someone might think that Sessions is better than all of them ?
If they Lakers had the choice between any of those guys & Sessions 1 month ago -- they would have chosen Sessions ?
He hasn't really improved that much in the last month -- has he ? His ppg = 13 (identical to last year with Cavs) ... assists are up by about 1.5apg over last year ... rest of stats are similar. If someone tried to say last year he was in the top 8-15 -- that person would have been laughed off FN. (maybe being in LA changes perspective ??)

What I am saying is after the elite PG's there are a group of point guards playing at a pretty good level. Each player plays differently given the opportunity, shots mins. and team needs etc. I say he is playing in the same class as anyone in the 8-15 range right now. I can point holes at a lot of those on the list but Irving has the least amount of downside of course no one would pick Sessions over Irving. Playing at a certain level is not the same as who I would pick if I was starting a franchise because there are always business decisions that come with that. The one person that should not be in the discussion is Felton though. He is having a horrible year but he would have been an upgrade over Fisher and that says alot about Fisher more than Felton.
All I am saying is he is playing on the level of a second tier of good guards right now.

I agree they really needed a point guard who could create off the dribble, and hit a few jumpshots since they don't run the triangle. I also agree he will be somewhere in the MLE, was just pointing out I didn't think he was the 15-20 range as far as PG's no big deal though

because there is no security in that, he feels that he is out-performing that type of deal and needs to capitialize on his success now and I'd actually be inclined to agree with him on that.
