SMU ready to add Larry Brown and Buzz Peterson?

08:13 AM ET 04.16 | Has Larry Brown taken the lead at SMU? [Brown] looks like he could be the next to lead SMU's men's basketball program, according to a source. Brown met with SMU officials Sunday in Dallas to discuss the position, which has been open since SMU fired Matt Doherty after six seasons on March 13. Because Brown is 71 and well-traveled during his long NBA and college coaching career, he is keen on hiring Buzz Peterson, the current UNC Wilmington coach, working as an assistant at SMU, essentially a coach-in-waiting, according to the source. Marquette associate head coach Tony Benford also interviewed at SMU on Saturday. Brown comes from the North Carolina coaching tree, playing for former Tar Heels legend Dean Smith, as did Peterson.
