Wilfork: 'Quarterbacks are wimpy'

08:06 AM ET 04.17 | Not surprisingly, Vince Wilfork isn't all that sympathetic when it comes to quarterbacks. "One thing I'd get rid of is the penalties, certain penalties," he said. "I can do without them. You have a guy that's making $30 million a year (the quarterback), but you can't touch him. C'mon, let's be for real now. Me as a defensive lineman, it's OK for somebody to hold me up, and another guy to come and chop my legs, and I can't protect myself. I can do without that. That's probably the main thing. Being able to hit a quarterback good. We need that. We need that back right there. But you hurt the franchise of your team if you're allowed to tee off on the quarterback. Cuz you know, quarterbacks are wimpy."

Especially Vince's QB.

I think he'd be more worried about crossing Belichick.

Wimpy from Popeye: I would gladly pay you tomorrow for a hamburger today.

Vince Wilfork: I'll take 6 of those.

Brady is no wimpier than any other QB, maybe just smarter than most of the others. He gets hit a bit late, he asks for call... why? Not because he is wimpy, but because he knows a penalty will help his team move down the field... That my friend is smart.

Maybe he isn't happy in New England and wants to team up with Seymour again. A little chatter is all it takes.

Just NO!!!! no, no, no, no.

I guess it's because it's easier to plug in a replacement nose tackle than it is to replace a starting QB.

April 17, 2012  10:47 AM ET

Vince- first you have to get to the QB before you can hit him. 3.5 sacks 29 tackles, doesn't sound like Wilfork is doing to much damage to opposing offenses.

April 17, 2012  10:54 AM ET

I don't think hitting a QB is frowned upon. However, getting piledrived, bodyslammed or cut-blocked by a player usually 100 poinds heavier can be a little painful. Especially when you are trying to deliver a ball downfield and have to give up your body to do so comes into play. I would politely disagree with your valued assessment, Mr. Wilfork. Now, carry on to the buffet kind sir.

He gets a lot of double-teams. Unfortunately, the rest of the defensive line can't seem to take advantage of the fact that he's tying up 2 guys.

Wasn't sure if that was fear of losing him from NE or getting him in Oakland.
