08:21 AM ET 04.17 | Jeff Long will soon have to decide whether he'll go the interim route for this season at Arkansas, though Steve Mariucci's name has been floated, too. Meanwhile, one well-known Arkansas supporter is backing another former NFL head coach for the job. PGA golfer John Daly has been pretty active on Twitter in support of Jon Gruden for the position. Daly tweeted to Long on Sunday, saying he was "still strong behind Gruden as i still think he would be the man to take us to that level!" Daly added later: "Been trying to help, all is in @JeffLongUA hands & I've passed all info to him'if that is the route they want to go I think that Gruden would be the perfect fit! Razorback fans would welcome Gruden with open arms!"

I think Jon is going to hold out for a NFL job since there could be another 2 or 3 coaching jobs available in 2013.

It would be fun to hear and see Mr potty mouth giving the SEC refs hell down on the sidelines.

Has about as much chance as Lombardi coming back from the dead and coaching the razorbacks.

Gruden is better suited for the PRO game..

Maybe that's why he's at USC. (Sorry, couldn't resist that...)

Seriously, Jeff Long is caught between a rock and a hard place here. Big name coaches are unavailable, and stealing one that's under contract elsewhere is risky (OK, insert Petrino joke here...).

The logical one they want (Malzahn) just signed on at Ark. State, and doesn't have head coaching experience at the college level yet.

BRAINSTORM!!!! -- Can they borrow Sean Payton as an interim coach for the year? He's not doing anything right now.

Now that is funny!!!! The timing of this event really leaves them in limbo for a year unless they want to be the coach thieves and look bad by throwing $$$ at someone already in place!

Sean Payton does have some spare time on his hands. Beats sitting on the sofa watching ESPsux for the next year.

I agree....Gruden has no interest in coaching Arky

Would rather have Vandy's coach.....

FWIW, I think we go the route of interim coach and try to hire a traditional CFB coach in November. Interest levels were checked w/ Gruden, Carroll, and Patterson. None of those wanted to touch the job at Arky at this time/situation.

Again, IMO we won't hire an unproven coach..... McGee and Malzahn are out. We'll start again in the fall with Patterson, Gundy, Smart, etc. depending on the years they have, conf reilgn, etc MAYBE one of those guys would be interested in a $5 mill a year job in the SEC.

Arky has had a good run the last couple of years (and should have one this year), but the truth is there is still a shortage on in-state recruits & you're third fiddle to Gump and LUS in the SEC W. Facilities will be top 1/3 of SEC, but this is still a middle SEC job, IMO. Should be interesting to see who wants to take on that challenge.

I dont think Patterson and Gundy are going anywhere... Lateral move..I would target Smart Strong and Briles... Briles being he has ties to TX...

I agree....only shot we would have (and the angle we are playing) is that Patterson and Gundy are one UTX decision away from being in the no-man's-land of conference realignment. I seriously doubt that monster will come up again this fall, but who knows........

BTW, I'm back to my name/avi. I did the sentence Tues - Monday....cool?
