Sutter's next stop, Edmonton? Or Sochi ...

08:26 AM ET 04.17 | While his brother is taking a Kings team through the top-seeded Canucks, Brent Sutter's stock is on the rise, too. Never mind [Sutter's] stint at the world hockey championship being an audition of sorts for the Edmonton Oilers head coaching gig. It's also a chance for Hockey Canada to see if he's Olympic material. That's how well-respected he is in hockey circles. Yet the Calgary Flames couldn't see value in keeping around the smartest hockey mind they had on staff. ... While [Mike Babcock] and assistant coach Ken Hitchcock will undoubtedly get first crack at returning if NHLers are part of Sochi 2014, Sutter could also be in the mix if things go well in Sweden/Finland May 4-20.

Sutter's next stop, Edmonton? Or Sochi ...

I know Harry will be thrilled if ANY Sutter ended up in Edmonton.

April 17, 2012  08:57 AM ET

Tell that to Flames fans.

5 seasons as an NHL coach, never got out of the first round.

Yep. Sounds like the perfect candidate to coach the Oilers.

How has he not worked for Lord Irk?

I don't know. Like Spiny said, I think he is better suited for the Leafs.

The Oilers would love to get to the first round.

What the Oilers are doing to Renney is totally unfair. If they are going to make a change get on with it instead of leaving the guy in limbo while waiting to see who becomes avaiable. Pure bush league on the Oilers part

Agreed ! Renney has not done anything to deserve this public limbo. I have not even heard that Tambo is under new contract ???

Buhrent was not the problem. Bone ignorant ownership expected him to produce playoff results without a playoff calibre line up. Stupid is as stupid does. Sutter at least had the balls to tell Jumbo and Co. that he was not gonna re-sign with the Flames if the plan was to once again try for 8th with the same old line up.The man earned my respect for that at least.

He hasn't got one yet but apparently it is coming soon. For a GM whose best season is a 29th place finish Tamby is becoming one arrogant prick.

Hey, he's 'guided' them to three 1st round picks. Must be good for something?

Well said HC. Lanny McDonald pretty much said the same and pointed the finger right at King ownership and Feaster. Have there been any names mentioned to be the next coach?

I have but not lateley. Everybody in Edmonton knew Parker, he was a great guy. I had the pleasure of golfing with him a few times and the more gin he drank the further the ball went. I will always have a great respect for Parker.
