Cubs worried about Wood all along

08:10 AM ET 04.18 | GM Jed Hoyer announced before Tuesday's win in Miami that Kerry Wood had been sent back to Chicago for a cortisone shot in his right shoulder. Hoyer said Wood has had shoulder issues "on and off" since spring training, when he was shut down for 10 days in mid-March without any explanation except to say they were "saving bullets." Wood laughed off media inquiries about his lack of pitching, and the Cubs' brass denied there was anything unusual about the decision. Obviously the Cubs were concerned about Wood's shoulder all along, and Hoyer said they had to "back off" to get the shoulder stronger, an idea he conceded "hasn't worked so far."

Kerry Wood sent home with shoulder problems? Who could have guessed that might happen? Good thing the Cubbies still have a great set-up relief pitcher in Sean Marshall, Oh, wait! Theo traded Marshall and signed Wood to a new contract! Doh!

Get out of Chicago Kerry!

Just had a 2nd cortisone shot in my shoulder. They're GREAT -- for a few months. You keep getting 'em, you've got underlying problems that shots eventually WON'T address. Sorry Kerry is having issues, but eventually he's going to have to cut (or scope) on that shoulder if he ever has a chance to recover.

on and off since spring training? more like on and off since he entered the league. i actually give the guy credit. he's a total pro and he never complains eventhough a potentially HOF career was totally undermined by that shoulder.

To borrow an old axiom, it looks Theo 'jumped from the frying pan and into the fire' when he signed on with the Cubs.

Wood & Prior. What potential they seemed to have.

Remember when they drafted Prior and talked about his "perfect mechanics"?
