Why Kidd won't play for Spurs

As for making a deal for a Jason Kidd-type player, the Spurs don't really have the contracts or the cap room to make a major, blockbuster move. To get someone like Kidd, the Spurs would have to pretty much blow up a team that, as we mentioned earlier, looked like perhaps the best in the league before injuries struck.

And the fact that it makes no sense what so ever is another reason.

I don't know if anyone has noticed, but when have the Spurs ever pushed for a blockbuster type move? Last time I checked Tony Parker (finals MVP) has led them to 2 championships... why do they need an aging Jason Kidd and a huge contract? Sure they made a few overtures at him a few years ago when Parker was still developing, but that ship has sailed.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it!!!

I have no idea why there is always talk about Jason Kidd there. Tony Parker is just fine. He's one of the few NBA players I actually still like to watch play.

If Kidd was going to be with the Spurs it would have happened years ago. Tony Parker is a better point guard for the Spurs then Kidd would be. If Kidd is traded odds are it's going to be to Dallas but if I was Houston I might want to give Rod Thorn a call. Kidd and Yao would be a good combo.

I wouldn't break up the core group of guys for JKidd. He's good, but he hasn't won a title, so I'm thinking he's not all that important to the Spurs to begin with.

I agree with j.hova. Once Parker came into his own, Kidd's window of opportunity in San Antonio came to a close.

January 8, 2008  05:37 PM ET

I don't think anybody out there would believe such a rumor..The Spurs are the champs until dethroned, and they really didnmt need a player like Kidd to win those championships

January 8, 2008  06:34 PM ET

Two words: no need. Spurs don't need a point guard as mentioned by others. I'm not sure what they really do need. And, what they might give up, considering in the recent past someone on the team usually steps in to fill needs. Spurs have the ability to get someone if needed, in good shape that way, but they are loaded.

Kidd won't play for the spurs because "boring" basketball is not his game.

January 9, 2008  02:25 AM ET

the spurs have a post oriented offense, where duncan is the first option, he either kicks out or passes off the double team to spot up shooters or to a cutter..it is sometimes boring but effective

January 9, 2008  05:51 AM ET

Boring as in current champion or boring as in losing your team to cheating and another bowl game?

January 10, 2008  02:51 AM ET

BORING WINS TITLES. is there some other final prize other teams are looking for? Boring is fundamentals and playing the game right. with the exception of detroit in 04 and Chicago in 96', 97' 98', the past several champs have had dominant centers. 94' 95' Hakeem, 99' Robinson and Duncan, 00',01',02' Shaq, 03' Robinson and Duncan, 05' Duncan, 06' Shaq, 07' Duncan. Boring basketball is for those who want to watch those And One highlights and could not dribble a ball with out palming it or taking three steps in a layup. Ask Phoenix how many titles they won with exciting basketball. keep kidd, a washed up old overpaid guard who is a wife beater. The spurs are a character team and that is something kidd clearly lacks. he only gets tripple doubles because there is no one else willing to rebound. We will keep being boring and watch Duncan get atleast six titles like Jordan did. yep I'll take boring any day.

parker has led them to three titles. the only one he did not win was the one in 99'. 03', 05', 07' were parker, ginobili, bowen, duncan is the only hold over from the 99' title. kidd can polish tony's rings and admire eva. parker is everything kidd wants to be.

Why don't the Spurs go after Lebron James over the next couple years? We need to have that replacement for Tim to starting like David did. Is there anyone in the wings that Tim can work with? I see a void coming in the years to ahead.
Who will take over from Tim?

We need a big man to train with Tim, Go after Lebron James to take over after Tim is done.
