Canucks courting full-blown goaltending controversy

08:18 AM ET 04.19 | Cory Schneider has made just about every right move in putting off talk of a goaltending controversy in Vancouver, but his 43-save effort in Game 4 didn't help. Although Roberto Luongo wasn't at fault in dropping the first two series games, the move to Schneider was calculated and everybody knows it will have far-reaching effects on how the crease conundrum will play out in the postseason. And because Schneider is wired to not allow distractions or debate to change his game and focus, he is staking his claim to the starter's job and if he keeps this up to backstop a mammoth series comeback, they'll erect a statue of him beside Terry Fox outside B.C. Place.

Leafs fans would be drooling all over themselves if Burke were ever to pull that acquisition off.

Except Burke will probably end up with Luongo.

Not going to lie my hate for Vancouver isn't as strong with Luongo not in net, now don't get me wrong there is still a lot of it, just not as much.

Doubt it.

Luongoal has a monster contract for 10 more years and isn't going to be like a fine wine and age well, just more of a fine whiner.

concur...he is already starting to break down. And Vancouver couldn't be dumb enough (clould they?) to trade Cory

They won't be able to afford to pay him. Can't spend 8-10 million of your cap on goaltending, which is what they'd probably have to do to keep both of them.

What a disaster, Luongoal may become the highest paid goalie in the AHL next year. Or they trade Cory. Plus, I'm sure the Wade Redden clause will be removed from the next CBA.

Neither is a very good solution.

I was referring to a Schneider acquisition. They'll never be able to move Luongo with that contract.

Mentioning Terry Fox and a Canucks gumper in the same sentence... as the kids say, not cool!

They better get rid of that clause, if you are going to have a cap, have a cap. The AHL stuff is a joke.

I can see Burkie picking him up. He's overpaying damn near everybody on the team and he'll be long gone by the time Booby really sucks in net.

I'm one of those people that like the cap. I also don't like that the cap keeps going up so much every year. I like teams playing on the same playing field, and having to pay for mistakes.

I hate the cap, but i agree 100% with what you wrote if we are going to keep it. And consider that this comes from someone with Gomez AND Kaberle in the line-up. I think that if it exists then it really has to be able to handcuff those that make really poor decisions.
