Can Bryzgalov pull it together?

08:21 AM ET 04.19 | Ilya Bryzgalov was not good Wednesday, and Sergei Bobrovsky didn't exactly stem the tide in a dispiriting loss. Bryzgalov pulled himself together during the regular season, overcoming a truly bad spell to go on that stellar run in March. If he can do it once, presumably he can do it again. He has less than 48 hours. Playing in Pittsburgh, scene of two comeback wins, could actually help Bryzgalov and the Flyers. Getting this series over with should be a powerful motivation. After that, who knows? Maybe the goofy nature of this series is to blame. Maybe Bryzgalov will perform better under more tighter, more typical playoff conditions. If not, the next round will be ugly. And the Curse will claim another Flyers dream.

He's not the only one that needs to pull it together after last night. The rookies looked like rookies the defense looked like they should have been forwards playing for Pittsburgh. No discipline.

The Flyers were awful and the Pens looked like themselves. This is now a series

That may been the worst playoff performance by a team that I have ever seen. No goaltending, no defense, no backchecking, no.....nevermind.

They might as well just eliminate both teams, neither would make it past the second round against any of the other teams in the East with the lack of defense displayed in this series.

I have been saying that since Game 2 of the series. Neither team will make it past the next round.

Philly has goalie issues, Crosby is a punk, the sun rises in the East, and the Leafs missed the playoffs. Plus ca change, plus la meme chose.

Well once his team lost Bryz was finally going to get looked at. Good thing for him is Bob didn't play any better really, so no one will be screaming for a change.

I was also glad to see Rinaldo do what he normally does, team down by a lot so start being dirty, because when you are down by a touchdown, that should spark your team.

The Bruins couldn't score 10 goals on an empty net...

Breezy was getting looked at here even with the 3-0 series lead, he had like a 4GAA, as for the Ronaldo thing he really took a dumb penalty, if you look at it again the first part was barley a hit and he was sideways when he hit the boards, then Ronaldo decided to two hand him to the face for good measure, he prob will get suspended but definitely didn't get his moneys worth on that.

This is all part of the Flyers plan. They wanted to tank in game 4 so they could go back to Pittsburgh and embarrass the Pens further by eliminating them on their home ice. I don't see the Pens winning game 5. They have a terrible record for decisive games on their home ice. Should be all over on Friday.

They might have to put in a mercy rule if that happens again, maybe give the Pens 2 wins for that game....

Should but our only real physical D man is injured and if the Pens get a lead again at home I really think MAF will refuse to be the reason for the loss. Should be fun but if they win came 5 you can count on a game 7.

Wow, this was painful to watch. The Flyers and Pens both have no idea what to do inside their own blue line. Philly just sucked more at is yesterday.

Pittsburgh has scored 22 goals so far in 4 games.
Philly has scored 23 goals in 4 games.

The Phillies and Pirates are envious of that kind of scoring.

April 19, 2012  09:14 AM ET

Bowling shoe ugly is a good term to describe the defense and goaltending.

I think the Eagles and Steelers might be a little green with envy as well

They don't need to because they play defense. Although they did score 9 on Calgary, 8 on Florida and Toronto......

April 19, 2012  09:19 AM ET

Didn't realize it was the Steelers playing the Eagles last night!

April 19, 2012  09:25 AM ET

Looks like Bryz can add Penguins to his list of "things to be afraid of."

I'll tell you what...I really believe that Pittsburgh will take this back to Philly at the very least. I think that "Cowardly Lion" thingy didn't go down so well in the Pens' room. You guys/women (always my friend DWI gets a mention) were usding the phrase "poking the bear"...maybe they did. I can't say there's anything more to come, and maybe the "anger" was a one-off, but they sure looked impressive

I actually really liked watching it. I was flipping between that and the Rangers game and found myself mostly watching this game. Because it was goal after goal, and until it became 8-3 I still thought the Flyers were going to come back and make a game of it.
