Reds lack mental game to compete?

08:10 AM ET 04.20 | Cincinnati entered a weekend series against the Cubs four games back in the NL Central race, though there are signs of trouble. The Reds, with the exception of Joey Votto, do not grind their at-bats. They do not work pitch counts. They swing for the fences, even in a place like Washington, where the fences are a day and a half by train. The Reds strike out too much. ... By the time a hitter reaches the majors, his success or lack thereof has more to do with the way he approaches his at-bats, not his skill. It's mental as anything. The Reds don't excel in the mental game. They don't grind. These are not earthshaking observations. They're not new, either. I heard them all last year, from the same experts. Meaning, it's getting late early.

Cincy's pitching is not that great.... Average from what I have seen. So they are having a slow start... lighten up.

Here's some sage advice: "Baseball is ninety percent mental. The other half is physical."
