Lions worried about Best?

08:00 AM ET 04.20 | According to Lions GM Martin Mayhew, Jahvid Best has been in Allen Park for his team's voluntary workouts. However, Mayhew would not say if Best has been "participating" in the team's voluntary workouts this week. "I saw (Best) in the meeting room, but I haven't seen him working out," Mayhew said. "From what I understand, he's been doing everything, as far as conditioning and working out with everybody." It stands to reason that if Best was medically cleared, Mayhew would have given more specific details about his running back's condition. Best is currently recovering from a season-ending concussion injury sustained against the San Francisco 49ers last season.

...clang, clang, clang goes the bell!

Maybe a RB is on the list of needs here...

April 20, 2012  08:16 AM ET

Hope things work out for him. Seems like a good dude.

Thought/think Best is a quality player...but as it goes, one of the most expendable positions at this point in the game.

April 20, 2012  08:46 AM ET

I would think that if he isn't cleared, then his career is toast.

April 20, 2012  08:48 AM ET

He was in the facilities looking for his desk, thinking he was late for math class.

To quote Mr. H.A. Bacon,

"Uh oh."

QUOTE(#9):

He's a RB... how the hell you gonna suspend a player for going helmet to helmet on a RB when they lead head first through the Gaps and when finishing off plays.... It's part of the job description. RB's take helmet to helmet shots on pretty much every play. Best has got to take up another sport... he's just too dam soft for football...

I don't disagree with what you're saying but then why do we only legislate particular positions? If you're going to put rules in place, they need to be enforced for all players, all positions.

April 20, 2012  08:57 AM ET

I wish him luck, and health

April 20, 2012  09:31 AM ET

If he hasn't been cleared yet, after all these months, I'd really think seriously about risking another concussion, ever.

April 20, 2012  09:34 AM ET

Lions need to put a fork in this guy and realize he is never, concussion or not, going to be the go to guy. Hey, he was available to them in the late round due to everyone else passing on the guy why??????? Small and always injured in college. Your get what you pay for. Lions should dump this guy and move on.

April 20, 2012  09:51 AM ET

Wish him well, but this elevates LeShoure in the FF world doesn't it? Even despite his off-field social habits?

There not counting on him. That was the reason they drafted Leshore last April...tooo bad he tore his achilles in training camp. Reality is they've had terrible luck with running backs since #20 retired. Kevin Jones, Kevin Smith, Best and Leshore

Lot of short careers but they've been good while they were healthy.

It should be. Best is not durable and seems concussion-prone for whatever reason. One more and he's gone.

The Lions luck with picking WR's (Charles Rogers, Mike Williams) wasn't that much better, until they hit gold with Megatron.
