Harper scuffling in Syracuse

08:43 AM ET 04.20 | The Bryce Harper express has hit rough patch. Though [Harper's] first two weeks at Class AAA have left plenty to be desired, the Nationals aren't concerned in the least about their top prospect's development. Harper ended play [Thursday] with a .232 average and only one RBI in 14 games for Syracuse, but slow starts are nothing new for the 19-year-old outfielder, who has struggled early at every stop he's made in the Nationals' farm system the last two seasons. General manager Mike Rizzo said he's not surprised Harper has needed some time to get used to Class AAA pitching. ... "You've got some hard-throwing prospects, and you also have some veteran, AAA/AAAA type of pitchers that can really pitch and command their stuff.

Wise choice to hold him back. He has plenty of time to work things out.

He has notoriously slow starts. He'll hit .230 with no power for a few weeks, then he will go on a tear for the next two months or so. He'll still be up by July/August. Believe the hype, if you ever watch him play, he is a different breed.

Exactly. At each stage of his career, he struggles for a month or so and then he apparently gets his bearings and goes off.
I'm not sure it will take that long to call him up. I'm thinking June.

It's good that this brat is having some problems on the field.
It may save him if it teaches him some humility, then he can get serious about learning what it takes to play MLB.

What brainiac "expert?" sports writer wrote this article? Harper is playing against guys 4 to 10 years his senior.
If Harper starts out on a tear, every sports writer proclaims him a phenom and ready for big time, and then they add that he should have started the season with Washington. If he flops, they all start shouting, "Look at me, I'm an expert, I told you so". Sports writers are, to say the least, fickle, overly opinionated, loose lipped, and who's baseball knowledge only goes as far as what they heard form someone else who actually knows what they are talking about.
And here I was thinking the headline meant that Harper took up dancing of some kind.
