09:12 AM ET 04.22 | Part-time duty isn't working out for Jim Thome, who struck out six times in his first 12 at-bats with the Phillies. Scouts are saying his bat has slowed, just as they did before he revitalized his career when he got a chance to play regularly for the Twins in 2010.
It's only TWELVE at bats. Plenty of guys need a little more time than that to work out the kinks, so someone with the gravitas of Thome deserves the benefit of doubt and be given some more time to get into a groove.

Gravitas? Looks like someone got a "Word of the Day" calendar in their stocking last Christmas.

<---- college prof. I don't need no steenkin' Word of the Day calendar. :-)
In response to another poster... I agree, Thome really should be in the A.L., so either nobody wanted him (most likely) or he wanted to go back to a place that he loved playing in during the pre-Howard years and viewed Philly as his best option for a championship. He's been in 15 post-season series and is still looking for his first championship.

Baseball fans know big words, don't mock education.
I was also surprised that he signed with a NL team. But Thome is after another shot at a World Series ring than anything else, which is probably why he chose the Phillies. AL league 2012 contending teams didn't come knocking.
As a Twins fan, it was great to have Jim Thome around for a couple season and to watch him hit #600! Class act, future Hall of Famer!
Charlie always picks up some over-the-hill gang members each year. This year they have to contribute and that's the difference. Too bad for the Phillies.

It has to do with the space/time continuum. It is an illusion in a sense. He is the same speed really.

Let the dude play every game before making the call. I'd rather give Jimbo at bats than Ty *****ng Wiggington.

Phillies may be lucky to finish 3rd in that division.

It may be time for Thome to exit gracefully from the game.
