Has Winter lost Toronto FC players?

09:39 AM ET 04.22 | A small example from Saturday's 3-2 loss. What Toronto FC must now ask itself is: What are we playing for? Increasingly, it seems like the answer to that question is "each other" and in opposition to their manager. A small example from Saturday's 3-2 loss. Captain Torsten Frings returned and started the centre of defence. With a half-hour to go and the team chasing the game, Frings was pressed up into his favoured position in midfield. That lasted five minutes. Clearly frustrated that his A-to-B passes were a consonant short, Frings moved up to a forward's role for the remainder of the game. Was that a decision Frings made on his own? "No, no, no," coach Aron Winter said. "We wanted to force something, and that's why we played with him more at the front." "It was my decision," Frings said later. If Frings has gone rogue, things are clearly coming unglued. Winter insisted he still has control of the room. That control is not evident in the only place it counts -- on the field. A sort of institutional madness has taken hold now, with players sliding around the field like air hockey pucks, the sum total of which appears to be confusing the hell out of themselves.

It's sad but true, it's ALL about the money these days. I remember the love of the game, but that is dying.
