Jets eyeing deep threat

08:04 AM ET 04.23 | Soon, perhaps J-E-T-S Nation will start talking about receivers instead of quarterbacks. They added Chaz Schilens in free agency but still lack depth at the position. It isn't necessary to have 4-5 stud wideouts in Tony Sparano's offense, but after Schilens, Santonio Holmes and Jeremy Kerley, there is a big drop-off. We hear that the type of receiver that the Jets would likely target is one with a good size-speed ratio to become the team's deep threat. Sparano's physical, run-first offense will ideally set up the deep ball. "We were up in the tops of the league in plus-20-yard plays (in Miami), and my time with Dallas, as well," Sparano said in January. "We'll be explosive; we'll be able to get it down the field."

I hate Rex Ryan. That is all.

Good luck on that is all I have to say. I am a Dolphins fan and all those plus-20 plays Sparano's referring to netted them the 8th pick in this years draft. Most of them I believe were late in the season after they were already out of it. And not to pile on, but they had those long plays because he always runs on 1st and 2nd and then left with 3rd-and-long - hence, more opportunities for long plays. Sorry Tony, but the NFL of the 80's has put you WAY behind the times....

There's more. THE JETS SUCK!

Shouldn't that be "throat" instead of "threat?" Like, because The Jets ......

The only explosive thing about the Jest offense is their QB situation. That should blow up in their faces by week four.

April 23, 2012  08:40 AM ET

A deep threat isn't much of a threat without a quarterback who can deliver the deep ball.

April 23, 2012  08:49 AM ET

Deep threat is meaningless if Tebow is in at QB, so it's shaping up that the Jets will need almost two entire offensive platoons; one for Sanchez, another for Tebow.

You beat me to it! But I agree completely.

That's what the Steelers thought.

Then the Jests should be looking for a run-after-the-catch threat.

Indeed who is going to throw the ball to the "deep threat"?

A deep threat for Rex would be that lap band surgery.

Mike Wallace?

He doesn't run the 40 so well anymore - and he's joined the Choir Invisible.

Do you mean what backs up behind it?
