08:12 AM ET 04.23 | Though Francisco Liriano says he hasn't yet lost his confidence, Minnesota is ready to explore some options. The Twins are going to "take a step back" with Francisco Liriano, though it's unclear exactly what that means. Whatever the Twins have in mind, Liriano says he's ready and willing. "If it's going to help me, I'm going to do it. I don't have any problem with that," the left-hander said [Sunday] after giving up five earned runs on three hits and five walks over five innings. ... [Said Ron Gardenhire:] "He quit attacking the zone, and I think he gets away from wanting to throw his fastball, and that's his bread and butter; he pitches off the fastball. Like I said, we've seen it. You can kind of see him kind of start moping around.

Some guys come back from the surgery better than ever. Some guys are Liriano. From all accounts, he still has electric stuff. When he cares to use it ...

And that is why he will be traded at some point this year.

I think it's time to admit that his time is up with the Twins. He really hasn't been that good of pitcher the last three years. A moment or two of brillance but seasons wasted with but, maybe, next time, isn't going to make him a better player. Trade him, and soon.

Injuries will do that. His slider was out of this world when he first came up, but the torque that made it so devastating was also responsible for ending his rookie campaign. He can still bring it on increasingly rare occasions, but the Twins aren't going anywhere as long as he's their no. 2 starter. Of course, their current "ace" (Pavano) isn't much to write home about, either. It's shaping up to be a VERY long season in the Twin Cities.

Location, location, location. He flies open too quickly, and cant maintain a good release point. Watch him- he's lookin @ 3b when he releases, then pirouettes. If he cant locate his fastball, then his slider is useless. He's always had great stuff- just loses control & therefore confidence.
He'll be gone before the season's over- shoulda traded him sooner.

Should have traded him 5 minutes after his no-hitter last year. His trade value will never be higher.
