08:06 AM ET 04.23 | A new clock has started ticking for Pittsburgh wideout Mike Wallace. After Friday's deadline came and went without him getting an offer sheet from another team, [Wallace] is prepared to sit out offseason drills and at least the start of training camp, according to league sources. Wallace told some within the Steelers organization that he does not plan to sign his first-round tender "until he has to," according to a source. This means that Wallace could wind up holding out for some or all of training camp. Wallace is seeking a long-term deal and is unhappy with the $2.7 million first-round tender he received. Wallace has until June 15 to sign it before the Steelers can cut the tender to $577,500 -- a loss of $2.1 million.

I didn't think the WR draft pool was this deep. The market has really knee-capped Wallace.

Yep, good strategy: sit out as much as you can, get injured when you come back because you're not in shape, and lower your value even further.

I does seem that they are low-balling him, and they're going to hurt their offense if he shows up late and not ready to play.
The Steelers are in cap hell, right?

June 14 he will sign it and that is that. He will show up for real camp in July. He has no choice.
Please stop writing these stories until a player actually does not sign and play. Not going to happen.

In Big Ben's case, though, a bit of trimming of that schnoz would be an improvement.

he has till June 15th to sign his tender, what he wants is a long term contract, this is his only bargaining chip. If he were stupid enough to hold out, the Steelers would pay him nothing and he would be a RFA next year too...

It turned out to be a winning strategy for Chris Johnson, and a losing one for his team.
As long as there are greed, stupidity and agents this will happen. Maybe not in this case, but somewhere in the NFL this will play out.

If Cincy don't use there draft pick at 21 in the draft to trade for him then maybe, but I don't think Pitt would do the trade with-in the division, and have to to play Cincy twice a year with Wallace playing opposite of Green. There has been some rumors in the papers here and on the website that they could be looking at this optoin, but again I don't see it happening and would rather keep the pick then trade for Wallace because I think they could get a receiver at 21 just as talented - S.Hill, K.Wrigh, since I'm sure Blackmon and Floyde will be gone.
