08:20 AM ET 04.23 | Economic factors have made for difficult choices in the realm of higher education. The University of Florida announced this past week that it was dropping its computer science department, which will allow it to save about $1.7 million. The school is eliminating all funding for teaching assistants in computer science, cutting the graduate and research programs entirely, and moving the tattered remnants into other departments. ... Meanwhile, the athletic budget for the current year is $99 million, an increase of more than $2 million from last year. The increase alone would more than offset the savings supposedly gained by cutting computer science.

The whole SEC should drop all academics (ecept maybe Vanderbilt), because they are jokes in academics and then just funnel all money to athletics. Since that is what they are all about.

Supposed to be one of the few that do.

My surprise in the article is that an entire computer science dept is only at 1.7 mil at a university of 50k students.
