08:31 AM ET 04.23 | Max Talbot just had a sense the Keystone State rivals would meet in the first round, and, now as a member of the Flyers, wound up on the right side of the rivalry Sunday. He finished with three goals and an assist in six games, and as a plus-5. All three of Talbot's goals were on special teams. Talbot said the series win was incredibly satisfying. Flyers coach Peter Laviolette said Talbot was a big part of the game-planning process. "Max and I had a lot of conversations in my office, talking about personnel, players we're not as familiar with that maybe come in because of injury, systems, and we go over it," Laviolette said. ... I think you utilize what you can."

Not to be controversial, but knowing that he has a family, I really hope no player is tapping into Talbot.

In an article about Talbot why is a picture of Giroux shown?

Because Giroux is the best hockey player in the world according to his coach.

Yesterday he was certainly better than the "other" best player in the world

Rings speak louder than stats. He's nothing more than above average if Philly goes out next round.

Personally, Stamkos is tops.

OK, thanks for clearing that up. Makes perfect sense now.

going to be an interesting off-season in western Pa.

Philly was better prepared and better coached. Talbot has always been a second season guy.
Pens are going to have to make some hard decisions this off season.

So, a coach talks to a player who played on the team he's facing?

I can't believe it took until 2012 for a coach to do this.

<checks history>

Oh wait, nevermind.

Anyway......may as well get this in.

Pittsburgh lost that series in games 1-3 when they were running around trying to injure other players. They actually played halfway decent when they stopped the gooning, but by then, it was way too late. Once the hammer got laid down, and their players started getting suspended for it, they stopped and it was actually a hockey series, and not fight night at the Roman Colosseum.

I'm glad Pittsburgh is out, they represented everything wrong with hockey in those first few games and the sooner that's rooted out, the better. yes, I know the Torres hit was awful and I'm glad he got 25 games, but that was one player for Phoenix, not an entire team doing it. The targeting of star players, like what's been going on with the dirty play, has to stop, now. Torres targeted Hossa, Neal targeted Giroux and Couterier and on and on.

Cap issues and two huge contracts will be a major factor. Can't pay Malkin and Crosby 9 mil a season and have a balanced team.

If you don't know the answer to that then you're a newbie. This is T&R, get it? ;-)

exactly...is MAF signed long term, by the way?

As much as I hate it, Staal will go. They'd have to over pay to keep him knowing he'd be a third line center, and they can't afford to over pay players with the mega contracts.

Yep. On this particular day he most certainly was. The "other" best player in the world looked a little dizzy. Might that be because of Giroux "gentle" treatment of him?

Until 2015, at 5 mil per season.

Pittsburgh's payroll is at 60 million next year with 18 players signed. No backup goalie, Niskanen is a RFA, Paul Martin has a LNTC, and you'll probably see the Wade Redden Clause gone from the next CBA.

In reality, he's a 2nd or 3rd line center at best anyway. He'll still get 5 or 6 mil from The Irked One when he's an UFA after next year.

Hell, Grabovski got that kind of money.

Thar's Burkie's MO.

Shovel somebody else's money at it and people will think it's good.

5 or 6 mil is fair market value these days for a second-liner. The cap has almost doubled since 2005. Paying stars 5 or 6 is long gone. I don't dislike the Grabo contract all that much, considering he's certainly capable of 60-70 pts when his linemates aren't cardboard boxes and the team around him isn't sucking itself into a hole.

The Flyers won that series because the Flowery One couldn't stop a beach ball when it mattered.
