Cleveland coming away with Richardson and Weeden?

08:04 AM ET 04.24 | A lot of what happens later this week has to do with beauty being in the eye of the beholder, but where does that leave Brandon Weeden? I think we forget about Weeden with all of the talk surrounding Ryan Tannehill. ... [Considering] he might be the fourth QB selected in the draft, could we see Weeden come off the board in late first or early second round? The Oklahoma State product did play in a pure spread system, however, he can make all the throws in the NFL route tree and could find some real playing time as a rookie if he ends up with a club that allows him to compete for a No.1 job. Cleveland at No. 22? A possibility if the Browns pass on Tannehill and select RB Trent Richardson with the 4th pick in the draft.

Richardson or Blackmon is the first pick, and Weeden should still be there at 22. Seems realistic.

Here's a thought.....why don't they just take Richardson and then go O-line and WR from there. The three QBs mentioned above would be equally ineffective if they only have 0.76 seconds to drop back and throw the ball.

Did I say three QBs? I meant two.....

It's not like the QB situation there is stable anyway.

Wasn't Mike Holmgren going to turn this team around? When's that going to start?

Blame that on owner Randy Lerner and not Holmgren. If Lerner refuses to open up his wallet there is very little Holmgren can do.

They can do a lot of good things this draft. I suspect they will. Still, at some point you need a QB, and McCoy is not it.

In all fairness to Holmgren and the Browns, they have two big problems.

Pittsburgh and Baltimore.

Cincinnati is on the rise also, that makes 3 big problems...

yeah, but is weeden? There are reasons that he's not in the top tier. It's a decent parlay to get a blue chip player in Richardson and a maybe in Weeden, especially with what they have at QB.

Blackmon and O-Line help are the path here...

Whether they go with Richardson or Blackmon, a solid O-line will make them better players.

Exactly...

I keep hearing DeCastro may drop to 14 but also keep hearing "too high to draft a guard".

If the guy is as good as everyone seems to think he is, then why the hell not?

April 24, 2012  10:30 AM ET

Richardson YES, Weeden NOOOOO, Are the Browns kidding? They need O line help, and there is actually quite a bit in the draft this year. Get Jonathan Martin or Mike Adams at #22 and shore up the horrendous right side of the line. If they want QB help, get Cousins in the second or third rounds, or just wait until next season when there looks to be a bumper crop of good QB's. They're probably isn't an Andy Dalton available this year, i.e. a good QB who falls to into the second round. Bradon Weeden will be destroyed in the AFC North, this guy has no mobility and will 29 this year and coming into the NFL from a gimmick offense that is useless for pro preparation. Plus, the guy was a bust as a baseball player, I'm not aware of anyone who falls flat in one sport and excels in another. McCoy's receivers were awful last year, constantly dropping passes that were on the money. He needs another year, and if he is still horrible, well we can get Matt Barkley in 2013.

True, but a short time ago the Ravens had missed the playoffs three strait years and then they got their draft act back together. They traded their pick to the Jags who wasted it on a bust DE and got flacco and Rice with those picks.

That is not a bad spot for OL. They can get a wr or rb in round two and have as good a chance at QB project in that early round 3 pick if they want.
But hey, why waste any early pick on a QB you do not really believe in?
