Halladay's velocity down (again) in 2012

08:12 AM ET 04.24 | No, four starts does not a season make for Phillies ace Roy Halladay. But here's what the data shows, according to Bloomberg Sports. I asked for Halladay's numbers for each of the past three seasons, through four starts. Halladay is using his trademark two-seam fastball 10 percent of the time, compared with 27 percent in '11 and 30 percent in '10. His average fastball velocity is 90.1 mph, compared with 91.4 mph in '11 and 92.8 mph in '10. ... Then again, velocity isn't everything; Halladay is generating nearly the same amount of swings-and-misses as he has in the past two seasons, and opponents are batting only .154 against his fastball.

It is called aging without PED's. If Jamie Moyer can win with a 78mph fastball, Roy will be fine.

Yup. I'd rather have a pitcher who, even with declining velocity, is getting batters out into the 7th and 8th innings almost every time out than have a pitcher who throws 95+ and can only throw 5+ each time out.

Lots of confidence that Doc can adapt.
However, his old team will make a WS long before his current one does.

Haha.
You Blue Jays fans are a trip.
Aren't you the one who said the Blue Jays likely would have had won two championships in the last ten years had they been in the AL Central?

What lessons? This guy actually knows how to pitch and will be fine with declining velocity. It's all about movement ask Greg Maddux.
Beckett has no clue so he's toast.

I wouldn't go that far. It's just taking a little longer for Beckett to adapt.

I don't think so, but that got me in a little research mode. In 08, the Sox and Twins finished with 88 wins each to tie for first (Sox won the tiebreak). The Jays finished with 86, playing against the defending WS champs, the eventual AL champion Tampa Bay, and the Yankees. They went 37-35 against the AL East, and 24-12 versus AL Central opponents. I think it's a fair argument that they would've won the AL Central with relative ease that season.
Now, apparently someone suggested to you they would've won two WS's? Not on this planet. But the playoffs are a crap shoot once you're there. And they're not far off.
