Eagles want Samuel deal done by draft

08:00 AM ET 04.25 | The Atlanta Falcons are reportedly the latest team to jump into the Asante Samuel sweepstakes. The Eagles were in discussions with Denver last week, but the 31-year-old Samuel balked at the Broncos' request to restructure his contract. Samuel has agreed to rework his deal, sources have said, but apparently he's looking to keep most of the approximately $10 million he's slated to earn next season. The Falcons, like the Broncos, are probably offering a late-round draft pick. The Eagles were originally believed to be in search of a third or fourth round pick for the four-time Pro Bowl corner, but they're willing to take less in return, NFL sources have said. They want to get a deal done before the draft starts on Thursday.

beware of any deal Andy Reid makes. Count your fingers after he shakes your hand.

Hmmm...He's not going anywhere.

Not enough of a difference to put them over the top...

The same situation for him. They have CBs now. They are not going to guarantee that kind of money to him.
He is an unhappy eagle if he does not get moved.

He left his best years back in New England.

If they couldn't make it work last year with the roster they had, there ain't much left but to hit the buffet table with Andy.

...Dream Team?

The big up-front money in the contract is going to scare everyone away. He's still a guy who has a good year or three left, but nobody is going to pay the kind of salary the Eagles signed up to give him.

The Eagles may end up just having to cut him. Then, he and his agent will find out what he's really worth. I think they will be disappointed in the answer.

That is what he wants. Either the eagles pay him $20 million over the next two years or he becomes UFA and can cut a deal with any number of teams. His choice.
Dumb for him to restructure now. He can get the same deal two weeks from now.

That's what he may want but if he gets cut by Philly, I don't see any other team paying him $10 Mil a year right now given the lower cap.

Reports are that they are close to a deal with Atlanta. Sounds like it's going through.

The Eagles are a good team. Andy is a good coach. Vick is the man I love the Eagles and them all. However, I dont ever think they will win a super bowl. The Eagles have always been a bunch of nice guys that everyone likes who give away playoff games every year. I HAVE ZERO CONFIDENCE IN THEM. They should just switch cities, ownership and dismantle the team and let Philadelphia get a new football team to save itself form misery.
