Megatron lobbies for downsized role

08:01 AM ET 04.25 | How about this: An elite receiver wants the ball ... less. Coming off a career-best season, Lions receiver Calvin Johnson isn't necessarily looking to improve on his statistics. In fact, he'd like to see the Lions spread the ball around a little more. Last season, Johnson had career-highs in receptions (96), yards (1,681) and touchdowns (16), but he would prefer that the Lions get the running backs more involved in the offense. Quarterback Matthew Stafford has his best season, as well, throwing for 5,038 yards and 41 touchdowns. But the Lions were a pass-first team, which made the offense a bit predictable. "Last year, the running game wasn't really there and we threw the ball all day," Johnson said Tuesday.

Does he want his contract downsized to go with that?

The Man wants to Win!!!!!

He'll still command double coverage.

April 25, 2012  08:27 AM ET

Spoken like a man without a lot of individual incentives in his contract.

But yeah, it's nice to hear somebody talking about what's best for the team overall, rather than "what's best for me."

Of course, fewer balls thrown his way means fewer bone-jarring tackles, and maybe a longer career.

Whoa now, let's not say anything we can't take back.

April 25, 2012  08:31 AM ET

I don't think he's going to get the ball "less" after that big contract.

Team first attitude? Hey Revis did you hear that?! He put his team ahead of another contract holdout. THIS is the kind of player you want on your team! Hope he has a monster year.
