Scouts wonder: Is Lincecum breaking down?

08:08 AM ET 04.25 | Even his good outings leave observers wondering. Tim doesn't labor. Tim Lincecum doesn't top out at 92 mph and sit at 89-90. Tim Lincecum doesn't throw 108 pitches in five innings and need a spectacular 4-6-3 double play after his final pitch to prevent the total from going even higher. Lincecum, 27, did all of that Monday. ... [Whenever] Lincecum falters, talk immediately turns to the incredible torque he generates with his 5-foot-11, 175-pound frame, the potential for injury that caused him to drop to the Giants with the 10th pick of the 2006 draft. Scouts are buzzing about a possible problem with Lincecum's right hip, but the pitcher told me on Sunday, "None of that is true."

If Lincecum is in fact breaking down, it would be the perfect time to sign him to an extension

I predict that Lincecum is going to follow in the footsteps of Dontrelle Willis.

Sheesh --w hat's with all of the spam today? Somebody's mind is not in the game. As for Linceum, that odd, herky-jerky motion of his is the reason a lot of orthopedic surgeons are rich. You're asking for trouble ...

I get a sore neck just watching him pitch.

Without his unorthodox delivery he isn't what he has been. with it, he may not be who he was.
D-Train is a good comparison. If not now, next year.

The guy looks like he has faulty mechanics, pitching with considerable arm lag ultimately catches up with sooner or later. Pitching coaches never want to change somebody that's getting supperior results and winning games. You're damned if you do, damned if you don't eventually. I would love to be wrong here, and hope that I am.

Same reasoning though. Non-traditional delivery that a pitching coach couldn't help with.

I don't think you can change him, it wouldn't work.

Yeah, I think you're right. It would be a major project and who knows what he would be afterwards.

My understanding is that his delivery was a delivery his father worked on but did not perfect in time for a career for himself. Who knows how long his body will stand up, who knows if he can fix the delivery if it is off.
