Texas' offensive depth takes another hit

08:16 AM ET 04.25 | Texas announced on Tuesday that receiver Miles Onyegbule has a torn left pectoral muscle that will sideline him. Onyegbule, a 6-foot-4-inch, 216-pound sophomore, will have surgery in the near future and will miss preseason drills, said Kenny Boyd, UT's head athletic trainer for football. Onyegbule will be re-evaluated before the Sept. 1 opener with Wyoming. The Arlington High product caught four passes for 51 yards last season as a true freshman. He has a redshirt year available. Coach Mack Brown said during spring drills that Onyegbule was getting a look at the H-back position. With tight end Darius Terrell's recent decision to transfer, depth at the H-back/tight end spot is becoming problematic for the Longhorns.

Darius Terrell wouldn't have transferred if he was going to contribute in a meaningful way to this team. Onyegbule shows some promise but he has a long way to go...longer now.

The Big-12 will be fun to follow this season.

I don't have a lot of sympathy for the UTx, OU, Bama, tOSU, USC, LSU, etc of the world. They all recruit the best and should be able to have quality depth even if they have to move the parts around to create it! I've seen receivers who could play DB and vice versa. Linemen as well. JMHO.

Agree Van. Teams could have several conference losses...which will probably hurt their rankings. Great to create interest. Bad for the end game.

Hopefully C Jones can pick up the slack once he gets on campus

I still think Kragthorpe is willing to air it out more if Les would allow it. He did at Tulsa. (If you have someone that can chunk/catch it.)

Funny thing, if UTx's D is strong enough, the Longhorns could let the bone roll and amass a winning record.

Preach, DC! Part of owning up to the "athlete" label is the ability to show one's gifts and to improvise, adapt, and overcome the problem. Exhibit A: Reid Fragel, TE at tOSU, recently made the conversion over to inside OT as the Bucks were thin at that position. He's still learning the ropes, but doing a great job.

At UTx, C Whaley moved from RB to the DT. Should provide a lot of speed and quickness this year.
