Boston doubting Thomas?

08:23 AM ET 04.26 | Joel Ward may have ended Tim Thomas' tenure in Boston. It sounds almost inconceivable to imagine the Bruins trading Thomas only a year removed from his Vezina Trophy, Conn Smythe Trophy and Stanley Cup winning season. Thomas was by far the backbone of that Cup run last season and has been a very good goalie during his tenure here in Boston, but he is 38 and entering the final year of a five-year deal. ... With Tuukka Rask ready to be a No. 1 goalie and only 25, and under contract as a restricted free agent, it may be time to part ways with Thomas for a scoring forward and/or high draft pick and then take the money and put it toward Rask and other free agents. It should be noted too that Thomas' no-movement clause expires June 30.

As intriguing as the thought may be, I don't think Boston would get the return that would make this worthwhile. Perhaps a trade deadline deal next year, once Tuuku establishes that has he has fully overcome injury and is ready and able to take over the number one position fully.

Not that inconceiveable considering he is 38 and has maybe one or two years left in the tank. And there aren't always cool heads at interviews after you just lost in the first round to the 7 seed.

I'm not sure there would be much of a return for a 38 yr old goalie, with one yr left on his contract.

Agreed, but he didn't play bad. If he were to be traded, or let got, it would only be because of his age, etc. Not because of his performance in this series.

I was more referring to management being upset about losing not his poor play I agree with you it won't be for his play that he is gone

A couple of draft picks. If the B's trade him, it's for cap relief and to re-sign Rask for a long term deal.

He did let in a couple of softies.
In every series, you need your goalie to "steal" a game or 2, Thomas didn't do that in this series.

We certainly didn't see the physical presence that the B's have been known for.

I agree. Let's face it, he was never...even in his prime.,...going to be mistaken for Dryden. He played out of his depth I thought last season (and brilliantly). He's 38. And now sporting an AWESOME 'stache himself, by the way

At age 38 it's always time to be thinking about how much longer is there. But, I would take Thomas' play in any series against anybody. He just happened to run into a very hot goalie and a team that played defense, in that series at least, as well as they did.

well if you were a team on the cusp of being a legitimate stanley cup contender, who would you rather have? Tim Thomas for one year at under 5 mil, or Luongo for ten more years at over 5 mil per?
