08:04 AM ET 04.26 | Osi Umenyiora feels the calm may precede a storm. [Umenyiora] thinks there's a "chance" he could finally be an ex-Giant sometime in the next few days. With absolutely no movement or significant talks on his long-desired contract extension, the oft-unhappy defensive end is bracing for at least the possibility that he'll be traded sometime in the next few days. There was even a report that the Giants, who once wanted a first-round draft pick in return for Umenyiora, now are willing to accept only a third-round pick. Two NFL sources disputed that report, and indicated there's no reason to believe a trade is "imminent." Umenyiora seemed to agree, but ... said "You really never know what's going to happen here in the next couple of days."

Not again! This story has surfaced every year for the past three seasons. Osi wants a long-term deal. Osi holds out. Osi gets injured. Osi doesn't play a full season. Osi contributes in the playoffs. Osi has modest trade value. The Giants have always held him to his contract, and unless a team makes them an offer too good to refuse, they will probably continue to do so.

He turns 31 this November. He is the third DE behind JPP and Tuck. The Giants have to resign Nicks in a year and JPP after that and Cruz. Ya don't give your 3rd DE $10 million a year.
Kiwanuka will shift back to DE and they will look in the draft.

Exactly. And it is not a third round choice.

So, what is his contract status? Is he overpaid? Underpaid? Is he going to be a free agent in the next year or two? Whatever happened to journalism at that paper?

Oh, the NY Daily News. There never was an journalism at that paper.

I would get fired the first week. People buy the news to put in front of the door to train their dog. The Times is thicker but costs more.

A third rounder for Osi? If the Giants were willing to do that he would've been gone long ago.

They need to go with a Page 3 Girl like the Sun in England. Sure, the rest of the paper is suitable for framing or wrapping fish, but that's photo-journalism at its finest.

I Guess Osi hasn't gotten da Message Yet?

He is the Giants version of Lance Briggs except for his injuries.
