11:14 AM ET 04.28 | The Indianapolis Colts and rookie quarterback Andrew Luck's representatives have held preliminary contract talks, but the sides remain in the early stages of negotiations and no deal is expected over the weekend, sources with knowledge of the situation said Friday. The door was opened for a contract to be consummated when the NFL and NFL Players Association agreed to rookie salary pool numbers just before the start of the draft on Thursday. However, the Colts and Luck can take their time on this one. As the No. 1 overall pick in this year's draft, Luck's deal will be for four years and is expected to be worth $22 million. It will include a fifth-year option, which will be set at the 2015 quarterback transition-tag number. The Colts will have to choose whether or not to exercise the option after Luck's third season. Given the terms of the new collective bargaining agreement, the negotiation process isn't expected to be overly complicated.

Luck will sign without any delays.

Let's hope for Luck's sake they have included some hazard pay for when he's on the field. It's gonna get ugly for him.

Maybe they'll have him wear a flak jacket to absorb all those nasty hits he's going to take.

Should be no different than the one they offered Peyton!!!

I thought the draft would provide better news than this. Based on the rookie salary cap and negotiations, wasn't this obvious enough?

......esp. when luck visits new england 11/15 !

Why? Will the entire new Defense have figured out which end is up by then?

April 28, 2012  11:58 AM ET

Really. You think? Last time I checked there was a rookie salry cap. There shouldn't be a rookie contract holdout EVER.

Sign paper, get rich. Sounds pretty simple to me.

I thought this draft was one of the most exciting to watch in a long time. How many trades were there in the first round? Lots of fun, that's for sure.

I'll bet you loved those big hugs the players gave Goodell. What a love fest.

And that's the way it should be. Prove yourself first, get paid later. (although $22 mil ain't shabby!)

No wonder the Redskins suck every year Snyder allowed Shanahan to give up 3 first round picks and a 2nd rounder for RGIII!!

The Colts will need to build their OL to protect Luck!
