Why Cleveland must part ways with McCoy

08:05 AM ET 04.30 | The old saw about a backup QB being the most popular guy on a losing team isn't going to help Brandon Weeden, should he take over as a starter in Cleveland. It's especially true if the perception exists that last year's tough, likeable boy-next-door No. 1 quarterback had no substantial help and is now paying the price for it. That's why Colt McCoy can't be part of the Browns' 2012 plans. Sorry. Doesn't matter if he comes cheaply or even willingly. Doesn't matter if he's a good teammate or a capable Plan B in case of injury. Can't happen. Keeping McCoy around muddles the bold move made in drafting Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden in the first round.

Not that I am a Colt fan... but the Browns are one messed up team.

Holmgren's been studying the Tao of Rex Ryan. I think chapter four is about how to create a QB controversy and royally screw up your offense.

The Browns need a solid QB...I know how they feel...

April 30, 2012  08:14 AM ET

Yes, very smart. Start a rookie and have no back-up on your team.

I think you are good to go now!

Colt is a gutsy kid on a poor team in a tough division, I don't think he ever really had a chance to show what he could do, as Gisele said "do they want him to catch the !@#$@ ball too?" The guy deserves a chance, maybe he will get a chance with another team .

Nothing they do makes sense......

WORD!!!

It's probably a blessing in disguise. He could get picked up by a team where he can be used properly before he turns into Eric Carr.

Agreed Txheat, agreed...

A sixteen year old girl's bedroom thinks the Browns are a mess.

Seriously, what kind of "shadow" can Colt McCoy cast over a locker-room ?

April 30, 2012  08:27 AM ET

A trade would be the best thing to happen to Colt McCoy. A sixteen-year-old girl would be nice, too, but it wouldn't do much for his career.

With Mike Holmgren standing between him and the light, no shadow whatsoever.

Al Davis never cast a shadow over the locker room.

That's because light used to go right through his body.

LOL!!

He STILL is.

If the Browns dumb McCoy and then Weedon doesn't perform, that should be the exclamation point at the end of Holmgren's termination letter.

*Dump McCoy.

I guess letting "dumb" slip into a post about the Browns is beyond freudian.

Yes, Holmgren's started believing the good things he reads about himself and bought into his persona. That's probably why he had Favre working with McCoy last off-season.
