08:22 AM ET 04.30 | A countdown of sorts is on. The battle to open the season as Wisconsin's No. 1 quarterback won't begin in earnest until the summer, when transfer Danny O'Brien arrives from Maryland. Nevertheless, the 2012 spring game on Saturday reaffirmed that walk-on Joel Stave is No. 1 for now, followed by Joe Brennan. "Joel just continues to impress me," UW coach Bret Bielema said after the standout from Whitnall High School directed two touchdown drives to lead the Cardinal to a 21-10 victory over the White at Camp Randall Stadium. "Just his maturity, the way he handles it." Stave, who will be a redshirt freshman next season, completed 14 of 25 passes (56.0%) for 135 yards and a touchdown.

Maryland was piss-poor last year, why would they just hand the job to him?

So, is O'Brien the head of the Aryan Nation or was it Dylan Murphy?

He was having a good career before Maryland tripped on their own tallywhackers and got rid of Freidgen.

Maybe because their current #1 is a RS frosh walk-on? That'd sure make me wanna get some more talent on board ASAP, no matter who/where it came from.

They gone whole hog into free agency for QB's. Forget about recruiting...

I didn't even hear that they'd hired Houston Nutt up there...

I figure he has to be a consultant to Bielema

Bielema sounds like an eating disorder.

Look at their roster; he'll be handed the keys, soon enough.

Was just going by the article. The QB that was there doesn't sound terrible and a decent QB nets WISC a lot of wins (or has in the recent past). Saw two Maryland games last year and DO just didn't look like a worldbeater (and he may be injured a lot if he runs often in any case).

"Cardinal?" Don't try to church it up. It's red.
