Devils' $100M man's disappearing act due to injury?

08:26 AM ET 04.30 | How do you make Ilya Kovalchuk disappear? Just ask one question ... "Are you healthy?" That was the inquiry that ended a short interview in the visiting locker room at the Wells Fargo Center, because Kovalchuk made it clear he wasn't sticking around for follow-ups. "Yeah," he said. Then he was out the door. The real answer: Of course not. Kovalchuk hasn't shown the extra gear that makes him a transcendent goal scorer since these playoffs started. He is too good to look this bad, skating in circles at center ice while the action unfolds around him. Something has to be wrong. Is it his groin? His legs? We may never know. But it's clear he'll have several months to rehab that injury if the Devils' $100 million man can't earn that contract.

Maybe he is injured. Maybe the 2nd round of PO is just too scary...

This one could wind up being a sweep.

April 30, 2012  08:46 AM ET

he shouldn't have gotten 100 million to begin with . that team wasnt going to win it all anyway

April 30, 2012  08:52 AM ET

Maybe it's Philly's suffocating defense that made him disappear for game 1 ;)

I still think Broduer has enough left to steal one or two

Maybe he saw what Philly did to Sid and figured its better to skate in circles than to get pounded.

I don't know....the Devils have a really bad habit of giving up leads...not Brodeurs fault totally...the d looks bad.
But he isn't what he was either, and has let some in that he would stopped in his earlier days

He is hurt, he has been hurt since the second to last game of the season. The biggest issue is the coach keeps playing him a ton, even on the PK. Should limit his minutes, he is still producing somewhat.

Jeez you lose in OT, and now you are getting swept.

really guys, a little perspective here. This is Bryzgalov here....

He, like Radulov, is also a Russian. And, since he's signed for such big bucks, makes him a perfect target of opportunity.

Just saying, of all the teams when comparing firepower, this seems to be the most uneven.

Why the hell does every homer have to get so damn defensive here the second someone says something negative about their team? Philly looked 100x better than Jersey after the first. Just a damn observation and small, worthless comment that nobody will remember when Bryz lets in four beach balls and a hot air balloon.

In his defense he did keep the 1st period a lot closer then it should have been.

Steady Danny.

New Jersey came out strong against the Panthers in game one and then struggled. I'm not ready to say sweep, but things are looking good for the Flyers.

Because not all of us have been numbed to defeat like a Leafs fan.

Funny, I thought you said something about Bryz when a third party rumor had him being injured.. I might be wrong but Flyers in 5...

Precisely. Bryz has quietly done his job keeping the Flyers in position to win games. He hasn't been great, but he hasn't cost them any games except game 4 against the Pens. But, if he isn't Bernie Parent and Ken Dryden all rolled into one, he gets slammed. If the D tightens up a bit and the offense keeps getting 4 goals a game, Bryz will be fine.

Maybe that wil be NBC's new segmant. "Let's find a Russian to blame everything on" Starring Mike Milbury who traded for one and ruined that franchise.
