Bucs pick will take carries from Blount

08:05 AM ET 05.01 | Boise State's Doug Martin sneaked into the first round, courtesy of the Buccaneers, who otherwise spent four of their first five picks on defensive players, setting up a competition for carries with LeGarrette Blount. Martin reminds coach Greg Schiano of Ravens and former Rutgers running back Ray Rice for his ability to play all three downs. He is an effective route runner, has good hands and can pass protect. Unless the Bucs missed on Martin, he will be the starting tailback. But he only had at least 20 rushing attempts 13 times in 38 career games at Boise St. It takes two running backs to be effective running the football in the NFL and the powerful, inside running of Blount will be utilized, especially late in games.

So just going out on a limb here... But what your saying is the Bucs drafted a 1st round running back and that he will take carries away from their undrafted running back who fumbles a lot... Color me shocked.

Freeman needs to minimize his mistakes. Hopefully, with new editions like Vincent Jackson, Carl Nicks, and Doug Martin, he'll learn to manage his game better.

Yup and that's a whole lot of new pieces that need to gel along with a new system for Freeman and the whole team to learn... Won't say it's not possible that they win it, but I'd have to say with the Panthers still a bit away and all the Saints turmoil it's probably the Falcons to lose.
