08:30 AM ET 05.03 | When July 1 rolls around, the balance of power could be restored to Detroit. We speak here of the Detroit Red Wings and the approximately $20 million they have at their disposal to chase free agents, and an owner, Mike Ilitch, with the track record indicating he's going to do just that. Question is, will realignment go ahead after Collective Bargaining Agreement talks are finished or not? Players like Ryan Suter and Zach Parise are apt to be stoked about joining a team that already has the likes of Pavel Datsyuk, Henrik Zetterberg and quite likely a returning Nicklas Lidstrom, and also boasts a long tradition of winning despite this year's early exit from the playoffs. The Wings figure to have the inside track on both these prize catches.

Well, I guess there will be a playoff team in the Winter Classic after all. Whew! That woulda been embarrassing.

Winter Classic teams have won a Cup every year after they have played in it.

You don't have to win the Winter Classic to win the Cup the following year, so there is hope

Ummm, no, that would be next year. If the trend hold true, Caps win it this year since the Pens are out. Last year's Classic was Caps-Pens

If this story is on the level, and I believe it may be...Detroit is going to be very scary next season....but don't they need a goalie?

I fell asleep at the end of the second OT. The Caps had their chances, especially Ovie in the first OT.

they both did ...I am glad that the Rangers didn't score on that ticky-tack call in OT (one call was legit, the other wasn't)

Same here. I couldn't stay up.

However, the NYRs should take a lessen from this game. They better not keep giving Ovie those chances. MHO, they don't want this series going to seven.

In the actual story it says that have 20 mil to spend and the players would want to play with the likes of Zetterberg, Dats, and Lindstrom. Yet Lindstrom isn't signed, so is he going to play for free?
ZP isn't going to Detroit, he wants a chance to win he said. (That should get the natives restless)

The Caps dominated the first OT for the most part. Then I passed out. But Gaborik needed a goal and couldn't have chosen a better time to get it.

he hit a post or two himself prior to the goal. He actually got better as the night wore on

Gaborik!!!!!!!!!

After watching almost 3 entire OT periods, all I can say is the Rangers have the perfect guy as their captain.
