The end for Rivera?

08:20 AM ET 05.04 | Something just felt unnatural, if not unfair, about the sight of Mariano Rivera crumpled near an outfield wall. Could it really end like this for [Rivera]? It's hard to fathom, not just because he is the greatest closer of all time, but because of the way he did it all those years, with a graceful athleticism that made pitching the ninth inning look so easy. And now, instead of riding off into the sunset, as Rivera had hinted he would do after this season, he may be forced to limp into retirement because of a knee injury he suffered while chasing a fly ball during batting practice Thursday in Kansas City. ... [Considering] the injury would surely leave him somewhat compromised next season, it's hard to imagine Rivera coming back to pitch again.

He deserves to go out on his terms. I'll bet he comes back for one more season.

100% class from beginning to the end. And so it goes.

Gotta ask, why was he on the warning track shagging fly balls? Couldn't that be done in the middle of the outfield?

Sorry to see this happen to such a class guy.

Freak injuries happen but he's had an amazing career and no matter what team you root he's a guy that has certainly earned the respect he's gotten.

I hate to see such a great competitor like Mo get injured period, but when we consider that this may be how his career may come to a close it's just not what you'd wish for a guy that you enjoyed for so long. I would love to see him come back and finish it off his way.
