Richt, Brown favor playoff system

Mark Richt barely knew what was coming Tuesday. The Georgia coach had only been approached in passing about university President Michael Adams' plan to go public with a suggested eight-team playoff that would replace the current BCS format. But what Richt heard that night in New Orleans at a crowded party sounded good to him. "I think most coaches would be in favor of that," Richt said. More than a few, like Texas coach Mack Brown, are in favor. "I've thought for several years now that college football has come to a point that we need a playoff," Brown said. "I'm not sure what the best format is, but I think we're in a position where we are leaving out deserving teams in deciding the championship at the end of most years. "That said, when coming up with a formula, I think it is critical that we include and maintain the bowl system because that has been the lifeblood of our sport," Brown said.

Every year Georgia and its fans think they are the best team in the country, but they always find a way to lose to one or two teams that they should be able to beat. (South Carolina, Tennessee) and how can they argue that they should be in the title game when they didn't go to the SEC Championship, and the team they lost to did? (Tennessee) Now I will say they were the hottest team down the stretch along with USC, and a playoff would be a GREAT idea...i would have loved to have seen Georgia-USC in the Rose or Sugar Bowl. If the Big ten/Pac ten get their heads out of their you know what's this playoffs probably will happen..

Report Offensive CommentThe final BCS Poll December 1st was 1-Ohio State, 2-LSU,3- Virginia Tech and4- Oklahoma........Meaning, Georgia would not have been in a plus one bowl situation ( the only feasable possibility ) anyways, and the same cry would be coming down...The same problem would always be there. The answer-win all your games or shut the heck up..

Report Offensive CommentIn college football these days, it's almost impossible to win all your games unless you play a weak schedule*Hawaii*. And then some conferences have championship games they have to win too. Make it an 8 team playoff. If you're not in the top 8 then there's nothing to really say.

Report Offensive CommentThe fact is some one will always be unhappy with the outcome of any system, including a playoff. Every scenario has it's imperfections. Prior to the BCS, the press had most of the say in who was named the NC. At least there are some aspects of the BCS formula that appear to be objective.

Report Offensive CommentHail to the SEC. Nicely done LSU, nicley done! Big DAWG fan here noting that THE! Overmatched State University of OHINothing can't compete with the likes of the SEC. The overall strength of our conference is what gives teams like LSU, UGA, Florida, Auburn, Alabama, & Tennessee an edge. I could go on, but I would just end up listing all 12 of our teams.
And most college football fans know who is in the SEC, their school was likely beaten by one of our 9 teams this year in a bowl game. By the way, 10 of our 12 were bowl eligible! Oh yeah, plus 5 of the top 15 in the final AP poll are SEC teams. At any point in the regular season we have half our conference ranked in the top 25! Recalling the big one this year...Let's see... The Big-Ten dropped yet another stinker on us this year for the BCS championship; yeah thanks for that one, enjoyed watching the 1st half collapse of THE!Big Ten, again.
Maybe Ohio State will change their code to 3-8-2-4 this year, or wait... better yet S-E-C-1. Just a suggestion Mr. Tressel. Just a simple suggestion.

Report Offensive CommentI like UGA, as a matter of fact some of my best frinds are UGA alumni. And yes I seriously loved UGA beating Florida and I loved the excessive celebration in the end zone (seriously, it was sweet). But, to both UGA and to my beloved Trojans of USC, we are letting dumb losses kill our championship seasons.

If by "several years" he means "over 30" then I completely agree.

And for those north of the Mason Dixon and west of the Miss that matters?
