Brodeur influencing on-ice officials?

08:31 AM ET 05.04 | Danny Briere's called-off goal Thursday night, one for which many Flyers fans might give Martin Brodeur an Oscar, has a bit of history. Rewind to the Game 1 overtime, when Briere fired the game-winning shot through a [James van Riemsdyk] screen. Brodeur calmly explained to reporters after the game that van Riemsdyk had hit his stick. He couldn't really fault the referees, you see. They have a tough job and they had already negated one apparent game-winner because Briere kicked it into the net. It was all very artfully done by the 39.9-year-old Brodeur. He planted a seed that blossomed and bore fruit at a game-turning moment. Clearly, the officials were watching closely for further crimes upon Brodeur's person.

Let me guess, homer newspaper.

As an unbiased observer, I would say the officiating has been decidedly in the Flyers' favor. By a long shot.

What a load of codswallop!

If it's true that he influenced the refs - then good for him.

And (I don't consider this breaking my vow to not pick by the way) this is news to whom?
Brodeur works the officials more than most players I have ever seen, either by jawing or doing a pretty fair imitation of the proverbial fish out of water.

It's important to use codswallop in it's proper context.

The "39.9 year old" thing really gave it away.

Indeed. Kind of cheesey.
Is this Philly's crapola paper? If Larry brooks worked in Philly, would he write (using the broadest definition of write) for this paper? I don't know enough about it.
We have The Post in New York

I thought Philly's unofficial motto was "If you can't beat 'em, beat 'em up."

Not "If you can't beat 'em, whine."

May 4, 2012  09:17 AM ET

This is crap. We're getting beat at our own game, nothing more nothing less. As far as officiating goes, that boarding call against Zubrus in OT was complete BS. You don't call clean hits boarding in OT in the playoffs. I would much prefer the refs go the other way. Whenever we get calls in our favor we lose, i.e. winter classic. We need more adversity.

maybe....
I only saw the 3rd period, but even after the briere goal, I thought Philly looked a bit outmatched. Bryz looked....questionable...and the Philly "D" doesn't sem to have an answer for Kolvalchuck

fat old Marty flopping all over the ice is not a new thing in this league, he's been doing it for years.

The Flyers D gave the Devils too much on ice space to get their shots off on Bryz.

How so??? I'd say the officiating has been equally bad for both sides. Unfortunately for the Flyers it just so happen to favor the devils.

May 4, 2012  09:22 AM ET

What else is new ...he's been whining to the refs for decades......

May 4, 2012  09:28 AM ET

I haven't watched much of the Devils this season but they look pretty good last night.

exactly. But neither defence has been doing their goaltenders any real favours. Both teams' 3rd goals were jokes, especially Briere's. because of goals like that, I am less inclined to agree with those that think Marty can steal a game or so. He really isn't what he was, and I think, if there's anything to all of that "body language" stuff, he realises it also.

That's a lot of what I saw too. The Flyers D seemed a bit pourous last night.
