08:37 AM ET 05.05 | Aubrey Huff was standing in his New York hotel room at 5 o'clock in the morning in the early stages of what would be an eight-hour panic attack. He left the Giants two weeks ago to go home to Florida, where he had a second panic attack one day later and, finally, after insisting to the team that he had a "family emergency," phoned trainers and described what really happened.

Based on how the team is playing, panic attacks seem like an appropriate response.

It is more common than most people think. I think booze and light drugs might be a cause brought on in later life.

This sort of thing is quite common, to varying degrees.

A friend of mine started experiencing an irregular heartbeat, and for some reason thought he was dying. Now every time his heart rate gets elevated he starts worrying that it's the same thing, and can have mild panic attacks. He's fit as a fiddle and as happy-go-lucky as you want. The brain is a mysterious thing.
