Angels fans turn on Albert 'Boo-jols'

10:03 AM ET 05.05 | The boos in Angel Stadium could be heard clearly after his sixth-inning strikeout Friday night, and they grew even louder and longer after he grounded out to third base in the bottom of the ninth. The Angels were shut out for the second consecutive game and sixth time this season in a 4-0 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays, and the man who was supposed to prevent these kinds of droughts bore the wrath of the hometown fans. Albert Pujols was hitless in four at-bats, his average falling to .194, and he has now gone 108 at-bats in 27 games this season without a home run, the longest power outage of his career.

How much salary are the Angels prepared to eat when they trade him back to Saint Louis?
Just kidding, but this was inevitable. It has come a few years sooner than I thought it would. Let's see how Albert reacts. He's never, ever been booed at home.

It will be unless he breaks out of this soon. At least ARod still performed at a high level for a few years and got the Yankees a championship before he started breaking down.
What is this now? Four of the six most recent block buster contracts for position players being horribly bad?

I never understood this contract. Pujols had far more value to Saint Louis than any other club. I understood their offer this late in his career. The other two teams must have been smoking crack when they made their offers.

Something positive should come out of this and ARoids deals. The end of the 10 year mega deal. What's funny is that Fielder couldn't get his 10 years when he was the one who was a better bet since he's younger and would've only been 38 at the end of the deal.
Paying 25-30 mill a year to a 35+ year old player is idiotic. Plain and simple.

Exactly. I'd be shocked if he didn't start producing in a month or so, and he'll still produce for a couple seasons. But after 35-36? It's just a drain on your resources.

huge hispanic population in Cali, and a new TV deal for the Angels, yeah he was supposed to perform better(and he will), but this was all about ratings, same as the Arod deal, think of all the milestones and records these two guys are supposed to break, it just sucks for the YES neowrk that Arod is tainted and no one cares bout anything he does anymore....
