The Notre Dame football program made some offseason noise Tuesday, announcing that three players will be invited back for a fifth year and also that cornerback Munir Prince has left the program. The returning fifth-year players are no surprise: linebacker Maurice Crum, defensive end Justin Brown and cornerback Terrail Lambert. Nor is Prince's departure much of a shocker.

Another year of failure under the fat guy from Jersey? Why kids, why?

Notre Dame can invite Brady Quinn back while there at. He should be well rested right about now.

I am not sure if inviting them back is a great idea. Play your young talent, develop them, let them get the experience they need instead of inviting this guys back deceiving your fan base by getting six to seven wins, and then the next year going back into recession.

They ought to invite Lou Holtz back ....

January 9, 2008  09:11 AM ET

Invite them back? ND spin for PLEASE come back we are desperate!!!!!!!!!!

January 9, 2008  09:51 AM ET

I see why they would invite Crum and Lambert back...the defense is young but to have those guys with some experience will help out the youngster...they WILL have a good defense, they were okay last year except they(defense) were on the field too long...can't wait for the spring game...GO Irish!!!

I'm not sure if I would want to see the Irish to play the...Irish.

Crum and Brown needed to come back. The defensive end and inside linebackers are very thin. Lambert will help, but I would like to see Gary Gray or Raeshon McNeil start. With Lambert coming back, Prince was out. He wouldn't play with Sargeant Slaughter and Robert Blantnton coming in, and Gary Gray coming back from injury.

Munir Prince reportedly is transferring to Missouri. Mizzou is bringing in a lot of players, huh?

If it was me I would leave school. Why come back and suffer as a 5th year senior?

To improve their draft stock. There are very, very few teams in college that play a pro style 3-4 like ND. If you have success, you can get drafted by the Jets, Chargers, Cards, Pats, etc. who run the 3-4 and already know the system. Crum is very good. Also, they don't have a bowl win. Next year could be a year to get that because there is no way they will win more than 8 games. 7-5 would be my guess.

One can always count on a bunch of comments on an article on ND.

Why bother signing with ND with a coach like that. Sorry but come on, he is horrible.

Hey Charlie Lumpy Rutheford, join a conference, win a conference championship. Try the big 11, there's a spot and they're easy.

wally clever

The new recruits know where to be for there college football career. Read the top 25 recruits, the majority of them say.... Notre Dame (committed). They know and soon all the ND haters will. And for the Charlie haters, he is overweight beacause of a health problem, but if thats all you can always come up with on him and not what he gets paid for... who cares what you have to say.... fourth down, were going for it because we came to play ball not weight watchers.
