Why Bengals dealt Rivers to Giants

09:59 AM ET 05.06 | There was a story behind the story on the Keith Rivers trade to the Giants. The former first round pick had surgery on his wrist near the end of the lockout last summer. The Bengals thought he could have had it earlier in the offseason, and did not approve. The team subsequently put him on the non football injury list. Rivers wanted to be put on the physically unable to perform list, which would have enabled him to collect his salary. He filed a grievance against the team. There were hard feelings, and both sides thought a fresh start was in order.

Maybe we'd have a better news day if they could somehow tie in the Kentucky Derby or the Mayweather/Cotto fight into the NFL. Better than this...

Pretty good college LB out of USC, picked 9th by the Bengals. His career showed promise but has been marred by injuries. Good pickup by the Giants; only cost them a 5th round pick. If he playes anywhere near his potential he will help NY a lot at a position where they need help.

So in other words Mike Brown was cheap and it cost Cincinnati a linebacker.

Yes, and surprising after Brown fleeced the Raiders in the Carson Palmer trade.

Pretty much, they did well without him though. I believe he has only this one year on his contract. They got a fifth round draft pick in return.
But really, the owners lock the players out and tell them do not show your face around here and then they get upset about a player putting off a surgery when he is not even getting paid at the time?

The Cincinnati front office never has made a great deal of sense to me.
But at the low price of a 5th-round pick, he should be a good pick-up for the Giants.
