Is 17th at Sawgrass keeping Players from 'major' status?

When I saw that I figured Jonis wrote the story.

Finchem is short, no doubt about that. On the other hand, at least his formal wear doesn't include a skirt.

I don't know about everyone else, but I'm fine with the 4 majors as they are.

I'm not sure that there's any reason to add a fifth major, but I also see no reason to disparage the 17th at Sawgrass. It's fun, adds excitement to the tournament, fans enjoy it . . . what's not to like? I suppose the professional who occasionally plunks a couple in the water may have some objections, but I find that hole to be no more gimicky than watching shots at the current majors often pepper the flags and then roll off of glass-like greens or down the slopes of impossible pin placements.

Four is fine. Tiny Tim is not good for the game. I do like the 17th at Sawgrass however. The writer calling it a sideshow needs to go purchase a clue!

Absolutely right. The "Grand Slam" has a certain cachet to it. The Quinella just sounds like a track bet.

Actually, I didn't write it. But, it sounds like me. I'm fine with the Commish wanting to make it the fifth major but that's a tall order. I have a lot of beefs with the guy but, this isn't one of them so, I'll just stay on the sidelines on this story. One thing I have noticed is that Pete Dye seems to have Finchem in his back pocket. Do you guys realize the number of tournaments that are played on HIS courses? It's unbelievable. I thought Trump was ego-centric. Finchem should have told Dye a long time ago, we'll do a few of your courses but give someone else a chance. I'll bet they have lunch together at least once a week. It's embarassing. And, Kudos to Ricky Fowler.

It was good to see Rickie Fowler finally get off the schneid.

Actually, I'll bet it is Dye that's pushing for it to be the 5th major. Not Finchem.

I think the best way to make The Player's Championship the 5th major is to rotate it around the country and perhaps around the globe with a different venue each year.

It's all coming together for me now. It's all about Pete Dye. I say the hell with him.

Besides, except for 17, the entire course is a bore.

That's a good point. I like the 17th and it's definitely a trademark hole but I like courses with a trademark stretch of holes. Amen Corner, The Bear Trap, The Dirty Sanchez, etc.

Yeah Jakey, if they would only give The Players Championship a rotation that might be the one and only way that it could be considered the 5th Major. Send it around to other states and not on a Pete Dye course for a start. Darn Dye, he's trying to take over the world.
