Is Lewis on Ravens' radar?
One name that keeps popping up in Baltimore is Bengals coach Marvin Lewis, the Ravens defensive coordinator from 1996 through 2001. Lewis is still revered in Baltimore because he was the architect of the Ravens' 2000 Super Bowl-winning defense, one of the best in league history. Lewis has long coveted the Ravens' coaching job, and there's no question he would come to Baltimore in a heartbeat. But he has three years left on his contract, so the Bengals would demand compensation.

Wow! Lewis? First of all, what did he do with Cinci's D in the past 6 seasons? He's lost the respect of his players. His roster is full of thugs, criminals and "me" players. This guys leadership skills are marginal at best. This is a guy who has one of the most explosive offenses in the league and has had 6 seasons to rebuild the defense and still cant make it to the playoffs! Baltimore, what makes you think this guy will be able to come to your franchise and turn around your anemic offense? How is he going to gain the respect of your current players? Stupid Bungholes!

As a Bengals fan an Cincinnati resident I can say that Marvin has not seemed happy here the past 2 years. He comes across as having an attitude problem towards the local media and fans. Often insults the fans by saying things like "you wouldnt understand because your not a football player" and various other demeaning remarks. There is absolutely no reason why this team, with all the talent, should end the season with a losing record. Its my opinion that Marvin does not have the leadership ability to lead this team to becoming consistent contenders. He gave up after the public outcry to do someting about his thuggish players. Marvin has a saying in Cincinnati that he preaches to his players... "Do your Job!" I say to you Marvin... Do your Job!

Marvin probably has not lived up to expectations, but why would any bengals fan have expectations? You all suck! At least he got the team to .500 and on t.v once again. Before him they were garbage. Now that doesn't mean I think he did a good job, but he is not a horrible coach. If Norv Turner can be given 3 chances, there is no reason Marvin should not be given 2 . . .

Marvin is a great coach. He has turned the Bengals program around. It is amazing how fast people critic others when they have no clue what they are talking about. It is hard to create a defense with the talent the Begals have. It is not all of the head coaches fault. Once the Bengals win the AFC North next season, all of the critics will be blessing Lewis. The Bengals are not that far from post season play. If you are going to criticize any coaches they should be in the NFC. That whole division is weak!

Thing about Marvin is he made his bones on a great defense in Baltimore.
Then he goes where there is no talent on defense and a supposed High Octane offense.
And struggles.
I wouldn't be chasing him if I was Baltimore.

Six years? Six Years? Come on man. If you can't turn a crap defense into a force in six years, your in over your head. When he was with Baltimore from 96-01 he worked under Ozzie Newsome. One of the best talent evaluators around. 02' He led the Redskins to a 5th ranked D. However, in 01 the year before he arrived, the skins D was ranked 13th and finished 8-8. Not too bad. Take a look at the Bungholes draft history. With exception of 2003 (palmer/steinbach) 2004 (perry) he has drafted defensive players in the first few rounds. Their defense has not improved. If anything its regressed. Lewis is the problem.

Lewis unfortunately has taken on the loser aura of the front office. I'm surprised the fans weren't chanting at each game, "SELL THE TEAM" because the Brown family has run this team into the ground with their moronic "three headed GM" strategy, nor are they willing to spend to improve the team.
The Brown family should send out used kitty litter with this year's season ticket forms. My Browns have are only now really showing signs of making through trouble waters since their 99 rebirth, but no winning seasons in 18 years?
STOP GOING TO THE GAMES BENGAL FANS! We know you love your team, but its going no where with the moronic Brown family running the show.

Unfortunately (for a Bengals fan) browniefan98 is right. The Brown family is more concerned about the business end of the deal than the love of their team. As long as the team is turning a solid profit there will be only small glimmers of hope here and there for my fellow Bengals fans until ownership changes. Marvin did a great job turning a corner with the Bengals and getting them into the playoffs in 05 and has a overall winning percentage of 510% but he cannot seem to close the deal. He is a good coach, but it is going to take a great coach to take this team to the next level. They went from horrible to average. With the talent this team has they need a coach to get them from average to great and Marvin does not seem to be that guy.

whodeyjb is dead on about the Mike Brown running a good business. It's just a shame for the fans that the Bengals sales department is bigger than it's scouting department.

What you people fail to realize is that they have tried to improve their defense but their players just don't pan out or keep getting injured, or they're bloody idiots.
Cinci spent a first round draft pick on David Pollack and he ended up getting a possibly career-ending neck injury.
They spent a second round pick on Odell Thurman and he went and got into a crapload of trouble and may never return to the NFL.
Madieu Williams failed. They have no pash rush outside of Geathers, and that's not saying much. They have no DTs, and they pretty much lost ALL their LBs this year. Geathers was actually playing LB in a few games!
Lewis IS the best thing that's happened to the Bengals ever. Since he took over in 2003 the Bengals have been 42-38 in the regular season, and in those 5 years they've had 1 winning season and 1 losing season. Prior to that, you hvae to go back to 1995 to have them TOTAL 41 wins, but that includes 87 losses!. That's 8 years! Hell, from 1991-2003, they finished above 6-10 ONLY 3 times, and the best was 8-8!
So you're telling me that Lewis should be fired after leading a team that's pretty much been abysmal for its entire existance (except for the Super Bowl year) to 4 straight non-losing seasons and only falling short this year by 1 game?
Do you guys serously know nothing?

Bio - Lewis WAS the best thing that happened to the Bengals. Now times have changed and they need a change! Yes - I will LOVE Marvin Lewis forever because he brought us out from a 15 year slump. All I'm saying is that he did his job and now it is time for someone else to come in and close the deal with consistent playoff appearances. If not than my team is settling for mediocrity. Lewis brought this team to mediocrity and that was a tremendous feat considering what he inherited. However, I do not want to settle for average status and want championship football in Cincinnati. Demanding consistent results over 8-8 seasons is all I am doing. I dont think that the true championship organizations fan base would ever settle for 8 - 8 seasons. Just because the Bengals were so bad for so long does not mean we have to praise a man who brought us from bad to average. Until Cincinnati's fans and the Brown Family get tired of settling for an average to below average football team than my beloved organization will always be looked at as the bungles. As a Cincinnati fan I demand consistent wins! Marvin has not been able to do that. Yes I am thankful for him bringing us out of the cellar year after year, but now that we have been 42 and 38 over the past 5 seasons I want the next 5 seasons to be better than 4 games over 500%. Cincinnati can nit settle for mediocrity anymore! We must demand results! Marvin has not produced a championship caliber team and after 5 seasons it is time to bring in someone who will.

Mr. Pink - are you serious, win the division next year? They couldn't beat the lone representative from the AFC North this year. 5 of their 7 victories came against the Jets, Ravens (2), Dolphins and Rams, 4 teams that had a combined 13 wins. They lost 4 games to teams 500 or worse. Their defense, by all accounts and stats is horrific. Players continue to get into legal problems off the field.
So what makes you think they'll leap past the Steelers and the Browns into 1st?

Yeah I forgot the Bungles got owned by the 49ers twice in the Super Bowl, my bad.
They're falling apart though. CJ apparently wants out and may get his way, their RB situation is starting to get messy, their defense is constantly injured and underachieving, and Carson Palmer started throwing picks left and right.

"Their defense, by all accounts and stats is horrific."
Mostly because of reasons beyond the control of the team.
Ex. Pollack and his neck, Thurman and his crap, and injuries, lots of injuries (especially to the LB corp)

Even so, Bio, their defense wasn't exactly a dominant force in prior years, and the Ravens could make the same argument, as they were quite decimated by injuries too.
And one could argue that "Thurman and his crap" is within control of the team, as they seem to not consider character in their personnel decisions. And, it appears from the numerous off the field conduct issues they've had in the past few years that they do little to discourage such conduct once they've made their personnel decisions.
