Hartnell: Flyers playing scared and soft

08:29 AM ET 05.07 | The Broad Street Bullies, they are not, at least not now. [The] Flyers went 16 minutes, 23 seconds without recording a shot during a span that stretched over the first and second periods. Go almost 16 1/2 minutes without a sniff of a shot in a regular-season game would be bad enough. But to do it in a virtual must-win playoff game, well, it's simply mind-boggling. "We're playing soft hockey," winger Scott Hartnell said. "We're playing almost scared to take a hit or make a play." For a team that showed remarkable determination during the regular season and first round of the playoffs, the Flyers' play Sunday was totally out of character. They showed no heart as they were outshot, 43-22, and continued to be pinned in their own zone.

Yes, because the last time Hartnell called out his team in the media it worked out SO well!

What would Richards and Carter do?

May 7, 2012  08:43 AM ET

They're getting outworked by NJ, plain and simple.

You hit the nail right on the head

Exactly. This series has been rather one sided and Philly is lucky they are not cleaning out their lockers today. Going to be an interesting game 6. If the Flyers don't come out and skate their asses off right from the start it would seem that they used it all up against their in state rivals in the first round.

Its not very complex. NJ just wants it more than the Flyers right now.

which is what I thought might have happened...though this isn't over yet I think. NJ is certainly working a lot harder than Philly, but Marty is letting in some odd, very un-Brodeur type goals
Bryz is comical to watch sometimes.
I think Parent (Bernie) should start Game 6

The Penguins knocked the (stuff) out of them in the first round. They have nothing left in the tank.

Pete Peeters may be available.

By Giroux?

He'll probably get the 1 game suspension that Neal got. It'd be hard to rationalize anything more than that.

Jagr will be next to speak.

Looking at the hit, I don't know if it warranted a game. Maybe a fine. I will say it is obvious that the Devils watched the game film from the Pens/Flyers series. The way Zubrus went down with his hands around his head was a classic Flyers move.

They also learned to let go of the stick as soon as the Flyers start holding it.

Maybe look again.....

Nice acting job by Zubrus.

I think we can agree that the penalty will not fit the crime.
One way or the other.
