Pop rooting for a Spurs ... loss

08:07 AM ET 05.08 | Coaches, by nature, provide for themselves their own little torture chambers. [Gregg Popovich has] been wondering out loud among his staff that, well, wouldn't it be better to lose a game? "That's why," one of his assistants kidded him, "you are coach of the year." Popovich wasn't laughing. He's felt the winning streak has become a burden, and he didn't like the feel that a relaxed first round was giving his players. It's the same reason he also dislikes 20-point leads in the first half. So what happened Monday, when the Spurs coughed and sputtered toward a sweep, gave him hope. Popovich can treat the latest win like a loss, and he will take the Spurs into the film room to see a few things.

Most seem to grant Pop latitude in his decisions to rest players (smart) and the fact that he won coach of the year. I on the other had believe Tibs should have won the award again when he and the Bulls in particular went this entire compressed season with a a multitude of injuries and kept winning to the tune of best record and a #1 seed in the east. Pop particularly had an otherwise healthy (good mgmt) team all year and very little injuries to deal with. Good job Pop.................better job Tibs!

Looks like they will avoid the griz.........la is a way better match up for them

I feel bad for Memphis... they have too much talent and with their experience last year y'd think the Clips will be a walkover for them but no! There's one player on that team that needs to traded. They did well without him last season and they did worse with him this season... this is not a writing on the wall. It's what needs to be done. A lot of people have been naming names but I'd stay away from that....

I don't. Screw them. Will anyone be feeling bad for our Knicks? No. We're all adults here. I say if you lose its your malfunction. Deal with it.

No one should feel bad for us. We have a dumb coach who decided it's best to kill team chemistry to satisfy Amare's ego and an owner who is the brightest guy in the world. We always have self inflicted wounds... that's how it is with Knicks. And will always be. The only team I ever roote for. You can forget many things in your lifetime...

This was the boring-est 1st round matchup this year. I really believed the Jazz would give them some competition with their front court but I was sadly mistaken.

The only thing I was worried about was getting out of Utah healthy with a win. That's what we got. Notice how Barkley and Shaq were saying someone should have laid the wood on TP. Maybe that would have worked when he was a kid, but he is a grown man now.

Anyways, the Spurs took care of business and still look great doing it.

I love Pop!

I'd still take Woodsen over D'Antoni.. I mean, let's be real. Knicks made the playoffs, for the first time in forever. The Knicks finally won a playoff game in thirteen tries, shorthanded against one of the top three teams in the league today- under Mike Woodsen. And you think he's a bad coach because he put the most talented players on his roster in the starting lineup to give the team the best chance of winning? This is a guy that got an overrated Joe Johnson led team to the four-five spot in Atlanta, I think Woodsen is the man for the job in NY.
